Causes of sagging breasts (more about the important ones)

1) Gravity (attraction) is the first cause of premature breast drooping.

In other words, the large mammary glands descend because they are constantly affected by gravity, and the ligamentous apparatus is not able to support so much weight. Do you understand?

By the way, this phenomenon is also observed in girls/women who have undergone surgical operations to increase breast size by more than two sizes.

Now do you understand why smaller breasts are less prone to sagging?

2) Aging of the body and gland tissues in particular.

As the structures wear down, the skin and ligaments become less elastic.

This in turn leads to mastoptosis, in which the tissue of the gland itself (this tissue that maintains the elasticity of the breast) begins to gradually lose its strength, i.e. it moves down, and its upper contour becomes blurry, so you have sagging.

Actually, this happens for some earlier, for others later, it all depends on individual characteristics and the lifestyle of a particular girl/woman.

3) Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding are also one of the reasons why breasts become saggy.

By the way, this reason is almost the main one for most girls/women.

Let's talk about everything in order, during pregnancy itself, a woman's breasts increase, actually because of this, i.e. due to excess weight in the chest, it can sag.

But! Most often, prolapse of the mammary glands occurs after childbirth, when a woman breastfeeds her baby, this is the so-called natural feeding.

So, with this natural feeding, the baby, grasping the mother’s nipple, gradually pulls her breast down. Actually, the longer the process of such feeding continues, the greater the likelihood that the breast will not recover on its own, i.e. in the future, it simply simply remains in this position (state).

Interesting fact: in women who become pregnant at a younger age, the tissues are more elastic, therefore, after childbirth and breastfeeding, the breasts recover more actively than in those who gave birth to a child after thirty years.

If anything, this in no way means that you need to run away and give birth at 18 years old)), just take note.

Also, the breasts will remain more toned after childbirth if the pectoral muscles are well trained and are able to support the mammary glands higher, another reason to regularly exercise in the gym)).

4) Sudden weight loss is also the cause of sagging breasts.

What are the degrees of breast sagging?

Typically, specialists (and by specialists, I mean plastic surgeons) classify mastoptosis (sagging breasts) by the position of the nipple in relation to the fold under the breast, the point at which the lower surface of the breast is attached to the rib cage.

  • Mild ptosis: The nipple is level with the fold and above most of the rest of the tissue.
  • Moderate ptosis: the nipple is below the fold, but above most of the rest of the tissue;
  • Developed ptosis: nipple below the fold and at the level of the maximum projection of the breast;
  • Severe ptosis: the nipple is much lower than the fold and points to the floor.

In fact, it is very difficult to understand this information, all these degrees, without the necessary education.

I found information where scientists derived the formula for the most aesthetically attractive shape of a woman’s breast. The ratio was 45% to 55%, i.e. The volume of the breast above the nipple should be 10% less than the volume of the breast below, and the nipple itself should look straight or be slightly upturned.

This is what an ideal breast looks like from the point of view of scientists, so this is what I mean, in fact, to put it simply, there are (can be distinguished) three degrees of sagging (sagging) of the breast, see the photo below:

How to tighten sagging breasts naturally?

Correcting sagging breasts is a whole complex of necessary measures that takes a long time.

And the lost shape of the bust is not some kind of sentence, it’s like aging - we all get old. Some are faster, some are a little slower, but still we are getting old. This is a natural process, and there is nothing special about it.

At the same time, you shouldn’t give up. Work on yourself and be persistent, but without fanaticism.

#1. Support bras

We will start with the detail of women's underwear, namely the bra. Here (in my opinion) the situation is very confusing, and as a rule, in fact, there are two opinions regarding this issue..

1st opinion (theory)

Some supporters believe that the bra provides breast support and helps improve its appearance, i.e. Many women believe that the breasts cannot support themselves anatomically, and their sagging is caused by weakness of the ligaments that support the mammary gland.

Therefore, they are convinced that the bra supports the breasts and prevents them from sagging.

In my opinion, this is not true, this is an erroneous opinion, moreover, neither researchers, nor bra manufacturers, nor health professionals have been able to find confirmation of this theory.

As a rule, bra manufacturers carefully claim that bras affect the shape of the breast only when they are used (that is, when they are worn), but they do not say anything openly, because they are not interested in this, their goal is to make money.. in general, I described the 2nd opinion (theory) in great detail, there you will find answers to many questions, including questions regarding this theory (the first), therefore be sure to read further.

2nd opinion (theory)

Other supporters believe that everything is happening exactly the opposite.

They say that bras contribute to sagging, since the breasts become dependent on support (the bra) and atrophy of the natural mechanism that protects against sagging occurs, in particular, the muscles and ligaments that support the breasts atrophy.

Look, many people believe that bras create weak breasts, which, by relying on the bra for artificial support, lose the ability to support themselves.

In principle, everything is logical, because absolutely any organ that does not bear any load will atrophy over time (for example, if you previously trained in the gym and then quit, all your wonderful shape slowly begins to be lost), and here, in our In the case of ligaments, if they do not fulfill their functions, they weaken over time, and consequently the breasts begin to sag. Do you understand?

Also, to more fully confirm this opinion, there are medical studies that claim that the natural loading of the ligaments by the weight of the chest is anatomically provided and does not lead to their stretching.

Moreover, this opinion has many confirmations from various specialists who conducted experiments on women. For clarity, I found the most comprehensive study of its kind by Professor Jean-Denis Roullion, a specialist in sports medicine at the French University of Franche-Comté in Besançon.

So, Jean-Denis Roullion unveiled his amazing result after a thorough analysis of the breasts of more than 300 women aged 18 to 35 years. And according to his 15-year study, girls and women who wear bras have more sagging breasts than those who don't.

Therefore, the French scientist came to the conclusion that bras in this age group(I remind you 18-35 years old) are useless, moreover, he claims (and confirms the 2nd opinion, what we talked about above) that wearing a bra weakens the natural muscles that support the breasts, as a result, sagging (sagging breasts) appears , I quote the words of Dr. Rowllion:

“From a medical, physiological and anatomical point of view, the breasts do not gain any benefit from depriving them of their weight. On the contrary, as a result, it sags more, and the bra is just a “false necessity.”

I also found other studies that show that living without the support of a bra is good for your breasts. After all, without wearing a bra, the breasts are relieved of pressure, it becomes easier to breathe, lymph and blood circulation in the mammary glands is not disrupted, the weight of the breasts no longer supports the shoulders and back, and the muscles gradually resume their natural support functions.

All these benefits are really real and confirmed by many medical studies, and by the way, many girls/women feel discomfort at first when they give up a bra.

Can you guess why? Because your ligaments have weakened, they have atrophied, because the bra (bra) created artificial support, which is why at first you will have a little discomfort until your muscles and ligaments regain their previous strength.

But! Over time, when your muscles and ligaments that support your breasts begin to actively perform their natural functions, the sagging of the breasts decreases, moreover, the breasts become even more elastic.

Many girls/women will now literally be in shock.

How is it possible, they will say, I wore a bra all the time, what should I do now?

Besides, a bra is an integral part of women's underwear... should I not wear it or what?

What to do?

There are situations where wearing a bra is beneficial and this is also confirmed by medical research.

First of all, we are talking about playing sports and in all cases when you have to: run, jump, or make any sudden movements.

The fact is that during such movements the chest shakes and makes sharp vibrations up and down and to the sides with a very large amplitude (up to 15 cm), which is why it experiences a significant load.

And since the ligaments that support the breasts are quite thin, they are easily stretched when the breasts “bounce” during sudden movements. That is why, even if your breasts are not large, in cases where you have to make these sudden movements (in general, sports), you should wear a functional, supportive sports bra (it’s best if it’s a top, because a regular bra copes with this problem much worse), reliably fixing the breasts and preventing them from sagging.

This top reduces active breast vibrations and prevents unnatural stretching of the skin and ligaments.

Secondly, the bra will be useful for women with excess weight and pathologically heavy breasts, remember what I told you about above, due to such a large breast weight, these breasts can sink down, which will cause its subsequent noticeable sagging or other In other words, the large mammary glands descend, since they are constantly affected by gravity, and the ligamentous apparatus is not able to support such a large weight!!! And because of this, there is sagging.

Thirdly, the bra will be useful for women who have given birth a lot, whose ligaments are already stretched for natural reasons...

Fourthly, a bra will be useful in old age, when the tone of muscles and ligaments weakens.

Global output

In my opinion, wearing or not wearing a bra is a personal matter for every woman, you read the article, draw your own conclusion, but, in my opinion, the second theory = confirmed by many medical studies.

Breast sagging is a natural process, and wearing a bra does not affect it (meaning, for the better, it only affects for the worse, i.e. sagging is achieved faster, due to atrophy of the ligaments and muscles that hold the mammary glands) and with Over time, the breasts lose their shape and sag both in women who wore a bra and in women who did not wear one, because this is influenced by completely different reasons.

The reasons that I told you about above in the article, therefore you need to look for a middle ground (a sense of proportion), if you wear a bra, then as needed.

For example:

  • during sports, physical activity, running, etc. I talked about this above
  • or those women who have overweight or pathologically heavy breasts
  • or for those who are giving birth not for the first time
  • To old people.

But for all other girls and women (wearing a bra from an early age is especially not beneficial), therefore you need to avoid it in every possible way (if possible), or wear it, but not for long + be sure to take it off at night, when walking around the house, while resting and wear intermittently.

In no case should you put it on in the morning and take it off at night, or even put it on in the morning and take it off a day or two later, you can’t do that, because this will lead to atrophy of the muscles and ligaments.

As a result, there will be sagging (breast sagging), well, this is what a sense of proportion looks like in my opinion.

2. Feeding and moving the baby

I already talked above in the article about the so-called natural feeding.

With natural feeding, the baby grasps the mother's nipple and gradually pulls her breast down.

Actually, the longer the process of such feeding continues, the greater the likelihood that the breast will not recover on its own, i.e. in the future, it simply simply remains in this saggy position (state).

What to do in this case? Everything is very simple, you need to feed milk to the baby in such a way that the baby smacks it from the side, and not from below.

  • Incorrect attachment is when the breast is pulled towards the baby, rather than the baby being pulled towards the breast. Pay attention to the rules and positions of breastfeeding, because this is very important.
  • It is advisable to avoid manual expression, because manual expression causes a lot of strain on the woman's muscles, so it is best if you use breast pumps to express.

  • Follow basic hygiene rules and avoid milk stagnation, lactostasis, and mastitis.
  • Maintain approximately the same amount of milk in both breasts, and for this you need to apply the baby alternately to one or the other breast, and at the next feeding, offer the other breast first, and not the one you finished feeding with the previous time;
  • Before the biggest break - the night break, try to empty both breasts so that one of them does not “overstretch”.

As for moving with a child, many mothers like to use the so-called front carriers or, as they are also called, “kangaroo carriers”.

Many girls find this method convenient for fully transporting their baby.

However, this is harmful, because a child weighing in front of you creates excess load on the “front” and pulls your shoulders, chest and back in a downward arc. This should not be allowed because your posture is compromised, and poor posture is one of the most underrated causes of sagging breasts. By lowering your shoulders, you do not provide any support to your chest; in fact, it hangs freely, completely at the mercy of gravitational forces (the force of attraction).

3. Using various creams, sprays and supplements that promise you beautiful breasts.

Despite the fact that such methods do not seem to (but who knows) cause any harm to the breasts, there is no guarantee that they will help eliminate your problem...

Manufacturers claim that various supplements can strengthen the breasts and increase the elasticity and firmness of the skin, well maybe this is so, I don’t know)), but I know one thing for sure, manufacturers are always interested in selling their products because it is profitable for them, therefore , they will say what is beneficial to them.

In fact, they don’t care about consumers, as long as they are sold...

And yet, I will not claim that all these creams, sprays, etc. don't help.

But! I can safely say that all these creams, sprays, etc. Without other recommendations that we have talked about, and will continue to talk about, they will not be able to correct the shape of your breasts in any way, because this is basically impossible, you don’t need to fall for this nonsense scam, don’t be so naive.

4. Exercise does not help eliminate sagging.

Breasts are mostly made up of fatty tissue, and exercise can only help build muscle, but it has nothing to do with fatty tissue. Do you understand?

But! Don't despair, chest exercises at the gym will help you strengthen your pectoral muscles, which will make your breasts look much better on your chest.

With the help of physical exercises, you can really strengthen your chest muscles and make them elastic.

And moreover, when doing exercises for the chest muscles, you improve blood circulation in this area, and this in turn improves the metabolism in the mammary gland tissue, this is very good.

Moreover, developed pectoral muscles create a good “framework” for your chest, which:

  • slows down the appearance of sagging conditions (i.e. improves skin elasticity)
  • slows down the prolapse of the mammary glands (i.e. they lift the breasts, visually improving the shape of the mammary glands).

Doesn't sound so bad, does it?

Therefore, do not be upset, now we will consider the most effective exercises, which will help you girls/women strengthen your breasts and correct their shape, visually improving them, giving them elasticity, firmness, etc.

I remembered that I had already done an article for girls/women about pectoral muscles, talking about exercises, etc. therefore, I recommend that you go and study: =>, but here I will repeat myself again and even add.

Before we begin, you must understand that muscles chest quite strong and large, which means that 1-2 exercises and some other elementary ones, such as flyes and butterflies in the simulator (in general, isolating ones) will clearly not be enough.

Often girls do just this, do lifts on the bench, then go to the butterfly exercise machine and hope that in a couple of months, voila, the breasts will grow/tighten and become elastic (on their own). - of course this doesn’t happen.

By this I want to say that without hard work () it is impossible to get beautifully developed pectoral muscles. You will have to work hard to get desired result 🙂

#1. Incline Barbell Press

The angle of the bench should be: 30-45 degrees (no more).

  • 3-4 sets of 15-20 repetitions
  • Rest between sets no more than 1 minute

It is best to ask an existing trainer to explain how to correctly perform this or that exercise + help if something happens (for example, to give you a technique, to lift your morale, and so on).

He should show or tell you something like this:

  • Sit comfortably on an incline bench, with the bar above your head (possibly at eye level).
  • So, after you’ve positioned yourself on the bench, grab the bar with a grip slightly wider than shoulder-width.
  • After you have taken a grip wider than your shoulders, remove the bar from the racks (on which the barbell was located) and slowly, under control, lower the barbell down onto the upper part of the chest muscles, and then press it up.
  • And repeat the required rep range. That's all. At first glance, everything may seem easy (in fact, it is), but extra help from the girl (and especially if this is your first time at a fitness club) won’t hurt.

Or instead of a barbell, the exercise is a little more complicated, with dumbbells: (dumbbell press on an incline bench):

#2. Dips (emphasis on chest muscles) (advanced)

Here, perform 2-3 sets of maximum repetitions.

The exercise is very difficult (especially for girls), so it is for advanced people.

Rest between sets for 1-2 minutes (depending on how you feel).

If there is a graviton simulator, then do it there (it will make it much easier for you to do dips).

If you don’t have a gravitron and can’t do parallel bars, then I recommend replacing this exercise with push-ups (with your arms wide). We'll talk about this exercise a little further.

Regarding the technique of performing push-ups on parallel bars, I will say the following:

  • Grasp the handrails with your hands (as wide as possible) and jump out (stand on your hands) while your body becomes perpendicular to the floor.
  • Then bend your legs at an angle of 90 degrees at the knees and constantly maintain this angle.
  • Bend your head slightly down to slightly round your back and thereby focus on contracting the chest muscles.
  • As you inhale, slowly lower yourself down, tilt your body forward, and move your pelvis back (to engage the chest muscles, not the arm muscles).
  • As you exhale, push up and return to the starting position. A very difficult exercise (in terms of execution and technique), I do not recommend doing it for beginners (only advanced ones).

Push-ups (if you can't do parallel bars)

For most girls, the push-up exercise (with arms wide) is suitable.

This is a very simple exercise in terms of technique, which is truly intended for beginners.

It is very important that the arms are positioned as wide as possible (this is done on purpose so that the load shifts from the triceps to the chest muscles, because we are interested in the pectoral muscles, right?)

Regarding the technique of performing the exercise, I will say the following:

  • position yourself on the floor, feet resting on the floor, arms as wide as possible (in order to emphasize the pectoral muscles).
  • After you start push-ups, work at full amplitude, i.e. lower yourself to the end and straighten, but not completely (do not straighten your arms at the elbow joint, maintain a slight bend in the elbow so that the load does not move from the chest muscles to the triceps, but rather remains constantly).
  • Don't forget to breathe when you go down, inhale, when you go up, exhale.

By the way, if you can’t do push-ups on the floor, don’t worry.

Start push-ups from your knees until your chest muscles become stronger. The technique is all the same.

#3. Dumbbell flyes on a horizontal or inclined bench

On the floor (if there is no bench):

The exercise involves: 3-4 sets of 15-20 times, rest between sets no more than 1 minute.

In terms of technique, I will say the following:

  • Take dumbbells in your hands and sit on an inclined bench (30-35 degrees, no more) or on a horizontal bench.
  • Straighten them (dumbbells), i.e. squeeze them up, this is the top point (starting position).
  • From this point, start very slowly, without losing your balance, lower the dumbbells with your arms slightly bent at the elbows down towards the pelvis until you reach a fully stretched position (as you feel), then return to the starting position.
  • And repeat the required rep range. That's all.

Explanation of the training scheme

Firstly, you cannot (should not) change the order of the exercises that I have given you.

This is in case you do chest training on a separate day of the week.

For example, Monday. This order goes from basic (heavy work) to isolating (light, formative) movements. It is very important!

Secondly, all exercises fully engage the pectoral muscles, but almost every exercise has its own emphasis on a specific area.

For example, an incline bench press (in general, any inclined load of 30-45 degrees develops the upper part of the chest), but, for example, push-ups on the uneven bars = develop the lower part of the chest.

Thirdly, if you are determined to improve your pectoral muscles through physical exercise, then prepare for the right activities, for the right loads.

From the first days, correct exercises, correct technique. Everything is in the mind. The next day after training you should feel that your chest muscles are slightly sore, then this is normal :)

You are doing everything right. Muscles enlarge and grow only when the load on them is significantly greater than usual. And lungs painful sensations the pain you feel the next day (or immediately after training) tells us that you worked the muscle well enough. Those. There is no need to be afraid of this, this is normal.

Fourthly, I gave you the number of repetitions and approaches (above at the beginning, even before I talk about this or that exercise), i.e. Basically this is 15-20 repetitions in 3-4 approaches.

Fifthly, rest between sets is short (don’t sleep), i.e. 1 minute will be enough (see how you feel).

Lifting sagging breasts surgically

In fact, today the only truly mega-effective method of restoring beautiful breasts is a surgical operation, the so-called mastopexy.

In the process of such an intervention, a part of the skin that has stretched is excised, and thanks to this procedure, the bust is raised and takes on the desired shape.

As a rule, modern plastic surgeons practice two types of such surgical intervention:

1st type: Periareolar lift

This is a minor lift, which is practiced in the first degree of ptosis of the mammary glands, as well as in pseudoptosis (p.s. pseudoptosis is when the nipple is either at the level of the fold or above it, but the lower part of the breast hangs behind it; this usually appears after breastfeeding stops).

After this procedure, the scar is located around the areola, so the rehabilitation period lasts less time. By the way, sometimes such an operation is performed simultaneously with bust enlargement.

The 2nd type of mastopexy is a vertical lift.

This operation is performed when there is pronounced ptosis of the breast, i.e. in the second and third degrees.

The disadvantages of surgical intervention (i.e. surgery) are that after surgery the woman is left with scars around the areola and vertical ones - down to the fold, and also, there is a change in the sensitivity of the nipples, + besides, over time, the effect of the operation weakens .

This intervention (surgery) is performed under general anesthesia and takes more than two hours.

By the way, sometimes during the operation the doctor installs breast implants in order to achieve a more natural and pronounced result.

In the first month after such an operation, a woman needs to wear a special compression bra, which will reduce the severity of swelling, and also avoid physical activity, but to give you an idea, 1.5 - 2 months after the operation, you can resume sports activities (i.e. e. gym, fitness, etc.)

The final result of the surgical intervention can be assessed after six months... you will have to wait a long time, and of course, after the operation, the woman should eat healthy foods properly, while avoiding sudden fluctuations in body weight (losing weight and vice versa, gaining weight), she will also need to eat properly take care of the skin of your breasts, and under no circumstances should you use hormonal medications. That's all.

Contraindications for mastopexy are

  • breast tumors
  • oncological diseases
  • diabetes
  • pregnancy

As a rule, mastopexy is not recommended for women who have not given birth.

But! If for objective reasons it is necessary, then the surgeon will retain the possibility of breastfeeding, but in my opinion, if a girl or woman is planning a pregnancy in the near future, then it is better to postpone a surgical breast lift until later (think about it, this is terribly unprofitable).

Remember the reasons for sagging breasts that I told you at the beginning of the article: pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding - all this is almost the main one, why then rush?!

In general, if you have surgery (if you really want to), then only after pregnancy.
