At a temperature of 37–37.3 °C, during a mild course of the disease or at its beginning, it is also not prohibited to go outside. However, it is better to stay at home to avoid deterioration of the child’s condition if he has:

  • poor appetite;
  • pain;
  • lethargy;
  • capriciousness.

Also, you should not go out if the street temperature in summer is 25 °C or higher or in winter - below -10 °C. But here it should be taken into account that a temperature of 37 °C in newborns is not considered elevated and is accepted as the norm.

At 37.5–37.9 °C, when the body is actively fighting disease pathogens, the temperature cannot be lowered, as this will stop the natural protective process. If the child is over 3 years old, you can take a walk, but not for long, just 15 minutes will be enough. If the baby's temperature has risen to these levels as a reaction to the teeth, you can also take a walk. However, such thermometer readings are considered borderline, and walking when sick can have a negative effect.

At a temperature of 38 °C, the child himself will not want and will not be able to walk. In such heat, the condition is characterized as unsatisfactory, and walks are undesirable even in ideal weather. Treatment in such cases is carried out at home, and the supply of fresh air can be ensured by ventilating the room.

In children with a temperature above 38 °C, heat exchange is impaired, so in this case they cannot go for a walk, and treatment should be carried out exclusively at home.

Reasons for not going for a walk

Summarizing the above, it can be noted that walking on the street can cause deterioration in the following cases:

  • significant hyperthermia (38 °C and above is exactly the temperature that needs to be brought down);
  • unsuitable weather;
  • there are other serious symptoms of illness other than fever;
  • contact with healthy children is inevitable;
  • no clothes appropriate for the weather (when illness and weather changes caught you while away);
  • bad feeling.

In other cases, going outside is not contraindicated.

When can you walk after having a fever?

If you have an acute respiratory viral infection or a cold, in the case of a low temperature and residual or slightly expressed catarrhal symptoms, you can walk on average on the 3rd day, but no longer than 20 minutes and in suitable weather.

After the temperature rises after vaccination, you can go outside the very next day after the baby’s general condition returns to normal.

When a serious illness has been suffered (pneumonia, dangerous intestinal infections, etc.), the child’s body will take longer to recover. The first walk in such cases is allowed from the 3rd day after discharge from the hospital.

But even in the absence of contraindications to walks, children’s physical activity on the street at high temperatures should be minimal.

How to organize a walk

Being outside in itself is not everything. It is important to approach this issue correctly if you plan to walk with a baby who has a fever.

How to walk correctly:

  • Without active games. Excessive mobility, so useful for physical development a child in a healthy state, at the time of illness will lead to drying out of the mucous membranes instead of the expected hydration, accelerate the blood and further increase the temperature.   • Cloth. Children should be dressed for the street solely according to the weather, contrary to the notorious parental reinsurance, when children are wrapped in a hundred clothes to avoid hypothermia. The fabric of clothing should be breathable and not create a greenhouse effect, so that the child does not sweat outside.
  • Communication with children. If the temperature has risen due to teething or after vaccination, there is nothing to worry about if the baby comes into contact with other children. But when infectious disease you need to go for a walk with complete exclusion of communication.

Parents must understand: fever in children is not a contraindication to fresh air. And for the sake of your own peace of mind, you shouldn’t imprison your child within four walls, depriving him of both the pleasure of a walk and an additional therapeutic event.
