What a weekend in May. Holidays in May

Holidays and weekends in May 2019 in Russia are approved for 13 days. Among them are 2 public holidays. These are the “Festival of Spring and Labor” (May 1) and “Victory Day” (May 9).

How to relax in May, taking into account holidays and weekends

May Day five days

The weekend in May 2019 starts from “Wednesday, May 1” and will last for five whole days – until Monday, May 6. This generosity is explained by the transfer of holidays from other months of the year. This practice has been used in our country for several years to create a more convenient production calendar.

Let's look at the structure of the non-working May Day five-day week:

  • May 2, 3, Thursday-Friday – transfer of days off from January 5 and 6 (when the New Year holidays were layered on the already non-working days of the week, Saturday and Sunday);
  • May 4 and 5, Saturday-Sunday – traditional days off.

Please note that this only applies to those employees who work a five-day work week - from Monday to Friday with two subsequent days of rest each week.

For six-day workers - people with an official working Saturday, the answer to the question of how to relax during the May holidays in 2019 is not so optimistic. Such employees end up with a whole “fence” of workers and non-working days beginning of May:

  • Wednesday 1 May – public holiday;
  • May 3, Friday – shift of the day off from January 6;
  • May 5, Sunday is a traditional day off.

In this case, Thursday and Saturday are working days. At the beginning of May, six-day workers work like this: day off - work - day off - work - day off. After which a new work week begins.

Victory repeat

The second period of the May holidays this year will be few less than the first– four days from May 9 to 12. Their structure is similar:

  • May 10, Friday – postponement of the day off from February 23;
  • May 11 and 12, Saturday-Sunday – traditional days off.

Let’s make an amendment again - these data are relevant for those who work on a five-day basis. The official six-day work week makes the following adjustments:

  • Thursday 9 May – public holiday;
  • May 12, Sunday is a traditional day off.

In this case, you will have to work Friday and Saturday May 10-11. Changing the day from February 23 is not relevant, since it falls on Saturday – a working day. The only bonus for such employees is that in February they had one more non-working day (February 23) than usual. While the five-day workers had the usual number of days off in the second month of winter.

Hourly bonuses

Regardless of how many working days there are in your week according to your employment contract, everyone is subject to the rule of a shortened working day preceding a public holiday. This means that you can safely subtract 60 minutes from your working time on April 30 and May 8. During this hour, you can legally leave work and start preparing for the weekend or packing for a trip. Some will go on vacation that evening.

Having figured out in advance how we relax in May in 2019, you can plan the May holidays to suit your taste.

At the beginning of May, Russians traditionally have a spring break associated with two holidays - Spring and Labor Day And Victory Day. How many days off will there be for the May holidays, recalls the press service of Rostrud, and Federal News Agency explains why it is unprofitable to take vacation in May and January.

How much rest do we have for the May holidays in 2019?

The May holidays this year will last nine days, although with a break. There will be days off from May 1 to May 5 (Spring and Labor Day plus the postponement of three “non-stop” weekends from January 5 and 6, as well as from February 23) and from 9 to 12 May in connection with the celebration Victory Day.

Thus, the first working week of late April - early May will last two days; in the second week of May there will be only three working days. Prev holidays- April 30 and May 8 will be shorter by an hour.

How not to lose money due to long holidays

There is one important pitfall here that many people are not aware of. In order not to lose money, it is not recommended to take vacations in months when there are many days off. This is January and May.

For example, this May there are only 18 working days. Divide your salary by 18 and you get the "cost" of one working day, which is higher than in other months. It is this increased cost, multiplied by the number of vacation days, that you will receive less in your salary. This applies to both paid and unpaid leave.

For example, if you took the days between the May holidays at your own expense, you missed out on a substantial amount, which could reach up to 22% of your earnings.

If you decide to take paid leave in May, there will also be losses. Income for May will consist of two parts: salary and vacation pay. Vacation pay is calculated on the basis of average earnings: income for the year (12 salaries plus all payments) divided by 12 months and 29.3 (calendar average number of days).

You will receive your salary for May not on calendar days, but on working days. Holidays will be excluded from the calculation. Accordingly, you will lose a significant amount of money, the losses will depend on the duration of the vacation.

When is the best time to take a vacation?

It is most profitable to take a vacation in months when the number of working days exceeds 20. The most profitable month for vacation is August, it has the most working days and, accordingly, the cheapest cost of one working day.

However, all these calculations are correct if you receive only a salary without bonuses and any additional payments, and also if you did not take sick leave and were not on a business trip. In these cases, calculations are done differently, according to a more complex scheme.

In general, the principle is this: it is more profitable to take a vacation, taking weekends and not touching non-working holidays.

We repeat: vacation pay is calculated based on calendar days, not workers. That is, if you decide to take a vacation, say, from Monday to Thursday, which you would have worked, then your vacation pay will be calculated for these four days. And if from Monday to Sunday, then your vacation pay will be calculated for seven days, although your salary would be paid for five.

With non-working holidays the calculation is done differently. According to the Labor Code, their number does not affect the size of your salary, except when you take a vacation. But, if you take a vacation, then holidays (unlike regular weekends) will be excluded from those days for which vacation pay is accrued. That is, if you decide to take a vacation, for example, from April 22 until the end of the May holidays, it is more profitable to write two applications: one for the period until May 1, the second - from May 6 to 8.

Conclusion: in January and May, it is not profitable to take paid vacation, as well as days at your own expense, unless you are counting on a large bonus.

There will be two long weekends in Russia in May 2019. On the first May holidays we rest for 5 days: from May 1 to May 5. On the second May holidays we rest for 4 days: from May 9 to May 12.
