There are many techniques, but today we will try to try just one.

Preparing a New Year's plate with your own hands

So, this plate can become either part of the service and a visual template, or one of the gift plates for your friends. She demands special approach to creativity, but we also must not forget about the instructions that you will have to follow. Small photo instructions will help you understand the essence of the actions and very soon, one of the New Year's plates will be able to decorate your New Year's table. It’s better not to get involved in such a task without materials, so you’ll have to go to stationery stores to make beautiful craft decoupage:

  • Let's prepare a New Year's themed napkin
  • Also, the plates that we will decorate
  • You will need manicure scissors
  • Also, we will prepare decoupage glue or PVA glue composition
  • Acrylic paints required
  • Acrylic varnish wouldn't hurt either.
  • Prepare a sponge or sponge for dishes
  • You will need a disposable plastic plate
  • Soft brushes, one of the bristles - for adhesives

Preparing drawings and decorations

To begin with, you need to select the appropriate napkin to cut out the design. For a white background of a napkin, a light background of the product should be used. In the case of this option, you should not try to form the outline exactly; use an approximate design; you can leave the margins. But, if the picture is located on a dark background, then you need to cut it in accordance with the contours, respecting the boundaries so that there are no noticeable bright transitions in the fragment of the picture. Next, we will use a sample of the design for the plate in order to design it in the future. It is necessary to compose a composition using different fragments of the drawing. Then, we separate the top layer of the napkin with which we will work. It is worth remembering that there are three layers in the napkin, the top one is what we need.

Decor

Then, we work on reverse decoupage of the plate. All our actions in this case will be carried out on the reverse side of the product. Please note that this option is only suitable for work made of glass. You can glue a napkin in different ways. For some, special spray options are suitable, while others use PVA glue on a napkin, and then spread the composition along the edges of the product. You can also apply a layer of glue using a brush. By the way, the brush must be immediately immersed in water. Afterwards, we lay out the picture and press it, straightening it using a sponge. Some air bubbles will form, and the napkin itself has a chance to lose its shape. Therefore, it is necessary to eliminate these elements, or even better, to perform the alignment using a finger, and before that, wet it in water or glue. After fixing the napkin, you will have to eliminate errors using a needle and pressure. To speed up drying, use a hairdryer. The glue will become transparent, the napkin will become slim shape. If the result of the work is satisfactory, we continue our work. Next, you need to carry out finishing work by washing off excess glue to the outline of the design. Afterwards, leave the product until completely dry.

Coloring

We paint on the reverse side. In this case, the reverse order option is needed. To do this, to form, say, a white background and a red edging, we first make the edging, and then the background. Acrylic paint is squeezed onto a plate. If the paint is too thick, you need to dilute it with water. The consistency of the material is in the form of a thick mixture. Next, you need to cut off a piece of sponge, then dip it in paint and then blot off the excess with paper. Afterwards, we work using the surface treatment method. You can hold the plate with your hand. Afterwards, we place our craft on a stable object. We create borders for the snow patterns, then cover them with white acrylic. The napkin is also covered with white paint up to the outline. Then, a version of our picture appears. Acrylic paint should be applied in several layers. It may not lie flat, but we need thickness, since this is reverse decoupage. An option to work in 3-4 layers will be the best solution. For fresh paint and its fixation, it is necessary to re-stroke and then dry it with a hairdryer. Using blue paints we form the sky, then run a little into the background white. Dried paint should not leak, should not be mixed, and will not show through. The same principle allows you to create a variety of patterns in the form of ornaments and stripes. Next, we paint the back of the product using a dense layer of painting material. Apply varnish and the product is ready!

New Year's decoupage is becoming increasingly popular. A bunch of various ideas found in many master classes that require certain investments.

Under New Year Not everyone wants to spend money, but many people want to make beautiful New Year’s decoupage with their own hands.

How to make decoupage while saving money?

There is an answer to this question, and it is presented in my master classes.

I believe that using a minimum of materials, you can create extraordinary beauty, no worse than using expensive materials.

Some may not like my innovation, but it is necessary to understand that in times of crisis and economic downturn, people should not stop making art.

New Year's decoupage plates

Of course, for this we need wax. Where can I get wax?! Of course, from small cheap candles that can be purchased for a very low cost in quantities of 100 pieces per package.

Believe me, this is very profitable, because buying one large candle costs much more.

And there will probably be candles at home that would be a shame to throw away and would be a shame to put on the table. These are exactly what we need.

Three old candles are grated and melted in a water bath.

Let's take it magazine sheet and make a cone out of it. Cover the entire cone with tape, especially the top, so that the wax does not leak out.

Pour the wax into the cone, first placing the fetil inside or tying it to a stick. If you don’t have fetil, you can soak several layers of thread in kerosene.

Place in the refrigerator and leave to harden. It will take about 2 hours to harden, but I left the candle overnight. I ended up with this Christmas tree-candle.

If the candle is not completely straight, you can correct it with a knife (remove excess wax elements).

This candle is ideal as a gift, table decoration or interior decoration.

New Year's decoupage champagne bottle

Lightweight and interesting idea, which will give you many pleasant emotions and will be an excellent gift for the New Year.

To decoupage a bottle we need:

  • sponge for washing dishes;
  • PVA glue;
  • scissors;
  • napkins;
  • gouache;
  • brushes

For my master class, I took a 1.5 liter bottle of Soviet champagne. I want to make it to celebrate the New Year with my family.

You can take any other bottle with or without contents.

Preparing a bottle for New Year's decoupage

First you need to remove the labels. This is not easy to do, because putting the champagne in hot water extremely dangerous (the bottle may burst in your hands).

To easily wipe off the label, I used steel wool. It doesn't scratch the bottle and removes it well.

An interesting hobby of “hand-made” has long come into fashion - things made with one’s own hands. Some people became interested in sewing clothes, others in creating crafts from plastic or designer dolls, and some of us discovered decoupage of plates. This is a fairly recent hobby that has gained its popularity due to the availability of tools and the low cost of available materials for work. Literally everything is used here - from napkins to eggshells, but the result amazes with originality and beauty, photos of such works inspire everyone more people, and the hobby has a growing number of devoted followers. Today, many websites are being created with photo and video materials, which tell in detail how to do this simple work step by step with your own hands.

Natasha Fokhtina, the author and presenter of her own program about handmade crafts on one of the television channels, is recognized as one of the “gurus” of the handmade trend. Today we will look at several ways to make such a plate - your own unique interior decoration, based on the methods and techniques of her video tutorials.

What is plate decoupage?

This is a technique for decorating dishes by gluing part of a picture to it with a final coating of varnish so that it is securely fastened, and literally “decoupage” is translated from French as “cut out”. The founders of the trend were German artisans of the late 15th century, who began decorating ordinary furniture with similar pictures. In the 17th century, Europe was swept by a wave of fascination with Chinese and Japanese motifs, in connection with which all segments of the population were already carried away by do-it-yourself decoupage, so by the 19th century it acquired a mass character; but this hobby came to Russia only at the beginning of this century, and has gained real popularity only in our days.

The easiest thing for beginners will be decoupage of plates; later, you can learn to decorate furniture, bags, etc. in the same style. Themes can be different: New Year's landscape, flowers, still lifes, even fragments of classical paintings. Or, why not, an old photo of your beloved grandmother. The main thing will be that you make this miracle with your own hands.

What you will need

  • plate;
  • napkins - these can be special napkins for decoupage, or the most common options with any pattern;
  • picture or photo of your choice;
  • glue – acrylic or PVA;
  • scissors;
  • alcohol;
  • craquelure;
  • eggshell;
  • brushes;
  • primer;
  • acrylic paints of any two colors;
  • oil gold or other paint.

Not the entire list is needed for work. You will need all the tools, but you can choose just one from napkins, photographs, craquelure or eggshells.

Decoupage plates are divided into types:

  1. With napkins. If special napkins are used, intended specifically for decoupage, then they are layered, separating the upper part; if ordinary analogues are used, they are not separated into layers, but glued as is. The execution technique can be found in Fokhtina’s photo and video lessons at the end of the article.
  2. With craquelure. The plate is painted with a paint of a special composition, which cracks textured when dry.
  3. Eggshell. Pieces of eggshell are glued onto the drawing, photograph or the area around them as a frame.
  4. Photo design. The style and technique is the same as when using napkins, just using a printed photograph as the image.

In addition to this method, decoupage plates are divided into:

  • direct - an image or photo is superimposed on the front of the dish;
  • reverse decoupage of a plate - the design is applied to the reverse side. Typically used on transparent saucers.

One of the most popular motifs is romantic, most often combined with aging

Which plate is better to choose:

Among the abundance of all kinds of plates, you can choose any one to suit your taste, but not every dish is suitable for decoupage. Many saucers are produced with corrugated or pimpled texture, and some of them even have their own design, similar in style to the one we want to make ourselves. In addition, all plates differ in the material they are made of - it can be ceramics, glass, porcelain, etc. For work we will need the simplest porcelain plate, white, smooth and without any images.

Direct decoupage technique with drawing:

A design is cut out from a napkin with scissors. If a photograph is used, then by analogy the necessary part is taken. These can be any topics; on the eve of the New Year, New Year's themes were especially popular, but this holiday is still quite a long time away. And also this great gift on March 8, and, of course, for the birthdays of loved ones.

  1. The plate itself needs to be degreased, for this cotton pad moisten with alcohol and wipe all surfaces - front and back.
  2. After degreasing, the dishes are thoroughly wiped dry, otherwise, during the process of applying the image, folds or bubbles may appear on it.
  3. A drawing, photo or cut out fragments are carefully placed on the front of the plate.
  1. Correctly placed parts are covered with glue, smoothing out all fragments with a brush.
  2. After the glue has dried, the entire surface of the plate with the image is varnished.
  3. We wait until the varnish dries - and the plate is ready.

This method is used to create decorative plates. If you plan not only to admire them, but also to serve fruits and goodies in them for tea, then it is better to use reverse decoupage.

DIY reverse decoupage technique:

The manipulations of cutting out the design and degreasing are identical to the direct method.

The difference is that the design is attached to the back of the dish, and the plate itself must be transparent, otherwise the work will not be visible and will completely lose its meaning.

  1. There is also a difference in the technique of applying glue. It does not coat the entire design, but only the edges, and it is better not to go onto the front surface of the plate, but small flaws are allowed, the main thing is not to smear the glue too much. On the photo and video materials on our website you can clearly see the style and technique of work.
  2. After the glue has completely dried, all the “blunders” can be carefully cleaned up.
  3. If an opaque background around the drawing is planned, then this surface is painted with acrylic paints and allowed to dry.

Ah, that word "craquelure"

Here the execution technique will be a little more complicated.

  1. The plate is degreased as standard.
  2. Apply primer to the dishes with a sponge and allow them to dry.
  3. Paint the surface with brown paint, which should also dry well.
  4. PVA glue is applied over the paint, wait a while, but here the glue should not be completely dry, this is important.
  5. Apply on top acrylic paint white. It should dry and come apart.
  6. Take a regular stationery file and place the cut-out napkin face down on it, fixing it with water.
  7. The file with the image is placed on a plate, then the film is sharply pulled out so that the napkin lies flat on the surface.
  8. Irregularities are removed with a brush.
  9. We paint the edges with brown paint for an aged effect.
  10. Around the drawing itself, using a different shade of brown, draw an analogue of shadows with your finger.
  11. Apply several layers of varnish until the surface becomes smooth to the touch.

So let's begin: first I'll give you paper napkins(if the napkins are multi-layered, then you need to layer them so that one thin layer remains, with New Year's drawings . You need to take a napkin on which Santa Claus is depicted and carefully tear it with your hands in a circle, so that only Santa Claus remains, that is, tear everything around Santa Claus. Next, you need to place the resulting picture in the center of your cardboard plates.

After that we take a brush and glue. We remove the picture of Santa Claus, coat the middle plates glue and place on our picture on the plate. Now we begin to coat Santa Claus with glue from the outside. You need to take a lot of glue, and spread it carefully from the middle to the edges, very gently, so as not to tear the grandfather. As a result, our picture will turn out without folds and it will become one with the on a plate. It's like it's painted on her.

The second stage of our work is decorating the remaining free space on our plate. Now we need scissors and the rest of the napkins. Choose any item you like. We have Christmas trees Christmas decorations and colorful birds. Cut out whatever you want and we will decorate.

After all the decorations are ready. We begin to glue them in the same way as we glued Santa Claus. First we coat plate, then we apply the drawing, and very carefully, the details are small, we begin to coat the top with glue.

After all the decorations are glued, check again to see if there are any wrinkles, and you're done! Well done, you did a great job with this job. Now the gift for your moms, dads, grandmothers or other relatives is ready! After all, you know that the most expensive gift is a gift made with your own hands!
