Hello! I have been using Palette paint for many years. From time to time I try to change it with other brands, but I still come back because it has a pleasant texture, many shades, it is available in almost any store and, on top of everything, it has an affordable price. I usually choose medium dark shades to darken the roots and keep the ends light (I give myself an ombre).
So, the original color:
The roots have grown a little, half a centimeter, because... the previous coloring was a little over two weeks ago, but the pigment was washed away from earlier bleached hair, and I wanted to fix it (usually I wear makeup once every 1.5-2 months):
I especially like the shades “Cocoa” and “Golden Grillage” level 5, but this time I decided to achieve a more contrasting transition and took the shade WN3 Golden coffee- the one on which it is built advertising campaign Palette with Natalia Oreira. Natalia's color is very beautiful, rich, dark brown with a golden tint (there were a lot of advertisements not only on TV, but also in magazines, so I had the opportunity to take a better look at it). But in the color map, for some reason, this shade looks red, although the alphanumeric designation says that the color should be brown (W), matte (N), depth level 3 (dark chestnut). On the other hand, on the stand under the boxes with this shade there was also a sample of a dyed strand, and there was no longer any red tint in it (the color was almost the same as on the box, golden brown). What should we believe?.. But more on that below.
Hoping that there wouldn’t be a lot of red, I still bought a box for 130 rubles (before the crisis it could have been purchased for only 100).
At home, I experienced my first disappointment - while looking at the typical components of the box (tube of paint, developer, gloves, instructions), I saw that on the developer bottle it was indicated - 9%. To be honest, this shocked me, because usually dark Palette shades contain 6% oxidizing agents, and this is quite enough. 9 is usually put in blonde shades. At first I thought it was an accident, even then I checked other boxes of paint in the store, but no - they all come with 9s. Upset. Apparently, the manufacturers decided to please everyone in this way (since the shade was advertised) in order to certainly color any hair - both gray and very dark. I don't find any other explanation.
Since this is a high percentage for me, I was afraid to wear makeup. After reading a bunch of information about how to reduce the percentage of oxidizing agent, I realized that the only way- this is to mix it with an oxidizing agent of a lower percentage. Water and other substances will not help. For my own peace of mind, I had to add a spoonful of this balm and an oily honey capsule of “Granny Agafya” to the mixture. This, of course, did not reduce the percentage, but at least slightly protected the hair from aggressive influences.
It is better to stir the paint in a large room, and not in the bathroom - The smell seemed stronger to me than in other dark shades of this company, but upon application the mixture smelled less. The paint applied well and did not run. It didn't sting the skin. Half the package was enough for my roots. The paint seemed very intense - any contact with the skin or fabric can take a long time to wash off. My husband even had an allergy attack (nose and eyes), which is surprising, because he often helps me apply Palette makeup without consequences, but this time he didn’t even come close to the “scene of action.”
30 minutes passed and I went to wash off the paint. Dark red-brown water flowed from my hair for a very long time, I even said goodbye to ombre - I thought that the light ends would also be tinted, but this did not happen. I washed my hair with shampoo several times to be sure to wash my hair of the caustic dye. The hair was stiffer than usual - apparently, the percentage of oxidizing agent made itself felt. There is no balm in the paint, I used my own. I also lost more hair than with other shades, two to three times.
About the result
After drying, it turned out that the color did not match Natalia’s color at all - it was dark burgundy!!! There is plenty of red pigment in it!

I very much doubt that Oreira was painted with it (even for advertising purposes; after all, I’m not quite a naive Chukchi girl to believe that she uses cheap household paint, but at least I still expected the shade to match). I remembered my youth, when after graduating from school I painted myself the “Burgundy” shade of Estelle paint that appeared on the shelves at that time...
The tone pattern in the card was closer to reality than the strand on the stand - be careful! Well, the box seems to be of a different shade altogether - you don’t have to pay attention to the picture.
I can only hope that the red pigment will wash off quickly, and this powerful shampoo will help me with that.
Even though I still had half of the paint left, I had to throw it away. “Golden coffee” is a bit of a misunderstanding for me. Now I look more than strange (with a color code-named “grandmother’s hope”). Now I have to hide the roots of this creepy shade by combing more of the blonde strands to the side.
The color after the 5th wash turned out like this:
Despite the hellish shampoo that washes away everything in its path, the color is still very intense, it has hardly lightened, and the red pigment does not even think of washing out!! Sits like nailed down. My hands are already reaching for the Estel wash (I have it at home), but I’m afraid of damaging my hair - I’ve done too many experiments with it over the past 1.5 months ((. Naturally, I won’t recommend this shade to anyone - except perhaps to someone who wants super long-lasting eggplant-burgundy color! Then this is the place for you!! Now I’ve completely lost the desire to buy other shades of Palette, as soon as I remember, I’ll shudder!
Folk remedies, alas, did not help me. It’s better not to remember how I tried to make a wash with cinnamon.
So in the end I painted over this mess with Syoss 5-1 Light Chestnut.
