According to the Gregorian calendar, 2017 begins on Sunday. Since January 1 is an official holiday in Russia and it coincides with a day off, the additional day off has been moved to February 24.
The last day of the year also falls on Sunday.

The longest holidays in Russia are New Year's days, and 2017 will not be an exception. You can safely plan your vacation for New Year, including foreign trips. The January holidays in 2017 will last for 8 days - from January 1 to January 8. Considering that January 1 falls on a Sunday, when working on a five-day schedule, December 31 will also be a day off.
Since January 1 and 7 are public holidays, but they fall on weekends, the government of the Russian Federation made the following decisions:

The State Duma of the Russian Federation in 2002 officially approved February 23 as non-working day. The holiday is usually called Defender of the Fatherland Day, and it is popularly considered a men's day.
In 2017, February 23rd falls on Thursday. The government of the country, in order to extend the weekend for employees working on a five-day schedule, decided to move the holiday to February 24 from January 1.

May is a great month to open the summer season, and in 2017 this can be done as early as the end of April. This is due to the fact that Spring and Labor Day (May 1) falls on Monday. June 12 has been a traditional holiday for the Russian Federation since 1992. Many people confuse it by calling it Independence Day, but officially it is Russia Day. In December 2004, the State Duma approved November 4 as a holiday in Russia, despite attempts by the Communist Party to oppose it. Officially, the holiday is called National Unity Day, and in 2017 it falls on a Saturday. Accordingly, November 3 is considered a pre-holiday day, and the production calendar provides for shifts lasting an hour less. Because the official holiday falls on a Saturday; with a five-day work week, employees also have a day off on Monday, November 6.
Result: Holiday - November 4th. According to the production calendar, the weekend will last from November 4 to November 6.

According to Article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation (hereinafter referred to as the Labor Code of the Russian Federation) (as amended by Federal Law No. 35-FZ dated April 23, 2012), non-working holidays in the Russian Federation are:
- January 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 — New Year holidays;
- January 7—Christmas Day;
- February 23 - Defender of the Fatherland Day;
- March 8—International Women's Day;
- May 1 - Spring and Labor Day;
- May 9 - Victory Day;
- June 12—Russia Day;
- November 4 is National Unity Day.
The Labor Code of the Russian Federation establishes that if a day off coincides with a non-working holiday, the day off is transferred to the next working day after the holiday. Thus, in 2017, weekends are postponed:
- from Saturday 4 November to Monday 6 November.
The exception is weekends that coincide with non-working holidays in January. In accordance with Art. 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation The Government of the Russian Federation has the right to transfer two days off from the number of days off that coincide with non-working January holidays to other days in the next calendar year. Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated August 4, 2016 No. 756 provides for the transfer of days off:
- from Sunday January 1 for Friday 24 February;
- from Saturday 7 January to Monday 8 May.
In accordance with the “Procedure for calculating the norm of working time for certain calendar periods of time (month, quarter, year) depending on the established duration of working time per week,” approved by order of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russia dated August 13, 2009 No. 588n, this norm is calculated according to the five-day calculated schedule working week with two days off on Saturday and Sunday, based on the duration daily work(shifts):
- with a 40-hour work week - 8 hours;
- with a 36-hour work week - 7.2 hours;
- with a 24-hour work week - 4.8 hours.
The length of the working day or shift immediately preceding a non-working holiday is reduced by one hour. In 2017, these pre-holiday working days are:
- February 22;
- March 7;
- the 3rd of November.
The standard working time calculated in the specified order applies to all work and rest regimes.
An example of calculating the standard working time in November 2017 with a five-day work week with two days off (initial data: 21 working days, on November 3 the working day was reduced by 1 hour):
- calculation for a 40-hour work week:
(8 hours x 21 days) - 1 hour = 167 hours;
(7.2 hours x 21 days) - 1 hour = 150.2 hours;
(4.8 hours x 21 days) - 1 hour = 99.8 hours.
In 2017, 247 working days, including 3 working days reduced by one hour. Calculation of standard working hours for 2017 with a five-day working week with two days off:
- with a 40-hour work week:
(8 hours x 247 days - 3 hours) = 1973 hours; - with a 36-hour work week:
(7.2 hours x 247 days - 3 hours) = 1775.4 hours; - with a 24-hour work week:
(4.8 hours x 247 days - 3 hours) = 1182.6 hours.
