Yesterday I found another one interesting way use of herbs. This is the creation of a talisman doll for your home. The idea is very inspiring, especially if you love to sew. And even if you can only sew on buttons, you can do such an interesting “little thing” as this wonderful bereginya can do.

In every home you can find a bunch of wonderful scraps, pieces of lace and braid, and you’ve already collected fragrant herbs over the whole summer!

In previous posts I talked about wormwood, sage, and yarrow. These are precisely the herbs that heal and protect a person’s home from all negativity and are amulets. And if you combine them in one symbol - a healer doll and a beregin, then their power will increase!

After reading this post, I immediately had a desire to make such a talisman. Of course, the drawings here are not very high quality, but if you are able to understand them (and I am sure of this!), then just take it and do it! And, nevertheless, if it is difficult, then wait, I will definitely post my step-by-step photo guide on how to make such a herbal capsule.

Especially for you, I have organized the information a little.

Herbal capsules, healing hostess dolls

To keep the air in the hut clean, a useful doll was made in Tula - the Herbalist. They hung it where the air stagnated, as well as above the child’s cradle. The doll was given to children to play with. It was also placed near the patient’s bed. Inside the pupa is fragrant grass. They crumpled the doll in their hands - they moved it, and a herbal spirit spread throughout the hut, which drove away the spirits of illness. The Herbalist makes sure that the disease does not enter the house. Warmth emanates from her, like from a caring housewife. She is both a protector from the evil spirits of illness and a kind comforter. The herbal pot is a wonderful gift for friends, family and friends.

Through two years The grass in the pupa is changed - filled with fresh fragrant grass.

Material for work:
1. A piece of light fabric 20 x 20cm. - 1 PC.
2. A piece of light fabric in a small pattern 10 x 10 cm - 2 pcs.
3. A triangular piece of bright, plain fabric for a headscarf? 30 x 30cm. - 1 PC.
4. A strip of red fabric 20 x 1 cm. - 1 PC.
5. A piece of colored fabric 40 x 40cm. - 1 PC.

9. Red threads
10. Fragrant medicinal herbs 3-5 items, 10 g each. Each
11. Sintepon or pieces of rags for filling the doll.
12. Needle
13. Scissors

The doll is based on a twist made of linen fabric, and instead of the body, a bag is made and filled with grass. Two small bags of grass are also tied to the doll’s hands. The doll is dressed up, and for a long time it pleases the residents of the house with the smell of meadow grass and a beautiful outfit.

The base of the doll is made of linen fabric.

Egg-cup manufacturing technology:

1. Take a piece of light fabric and put padding polyester or rags in the middle.

2. We make the doll’s head, trying to keep the face without wrinkles. To do this, we tie an even number of turns at the site of the intended neck with red thread.

3. Straighten the fabric diagonally, placing the halves of the flap on top of each other. At the ends of the diagonal we bend the fabric and tie an even number of turns with red thread at a distance of 2-2.5 cm. from the edge. We get hands.

4. Raise your arms and tie an even number of turns with a red thread in the area of the expected waist.

5. Take scraps of light fabric in a small pattern. And in the same way as the head, we make 2 breasts. Each breast is slightly smaller than the head.

6. We tie each breast separately to the neck.

7. Take a red strip and tie two knots on it at a distance of 1.5-2 cm. from each other.

8. We tie a red stripe to the head and get horns.

9. We hide the horns by tying a scarf on our heads, which is tied at the back.

10. Take a large piece of colored fabric, lay it out on the table, fold the ends towards the middle.

Another design option for the coastline

11. Baste along the edge with large stitches so that you can pull it into a bag later.

12. Sprinkle some grass in the middle. Place padding polyester or rags on top of the grass. Then we add grass again. Then again padding polyester. We alternate layers until we get enough.

13. We put the upper part of the doll into the sundress and tighten the edges, evenly distributing the folds.

14. We tie the apron inside out under the chest.

15. We tie the doll with a belt on top.

16. Take small scraps of colored fabric, fill each with fragrant grass and tie them up.

17. We hang these bags from the doll’s hands.

18. After this, the doll needs to be smoothed out a little, wrinkled, and bumps and bumps removed.

Schemes for creating a herbalist doll

Here is another diagram with a description of how to make a doll.

For the doll we will need: white (white earth) cotton fabric - a square with a side of 20-22 cm and two squares with a side of 10 cm, strong red threads (red color is protective), a strip of red fabric 1 by 20 cm for a bandage on head, a flap for a scarf with a length of at least two and a half times the circumference of the doll’s head, a square of colored fabric with a side of 40-42 cm for a pouch skirt, various fragrant herbs (sage, pine needles, yarrow, mint, lemon balm, oregano and others), rags, bright strip of fabric for an apron 4 by 7 cm, colored wool threads for the belt.

Rice. 1. The upper part of the pupa - the head - is made from a large white (or white earth) square of fabric. We bend it diagonally and put a tow (tow) or rags (old rags) in the center. We create a tight, even head without wrinkles on the face, and secure it with a thread around the neck.

Rice. 2-3. We make hands-palms. Straighten the fabric diagonally. At the ends of the diagonals we fold the fabric. Fold the tip of the flap inward approximately 2-2.5 cm. We twist the edges of the fabric inward and, stepping back from the edge 2-2.5 cm, secure it. We do the second handle in the same way. We tie the doll around the belt.

Rice. 4-5. From small squares we make a strong chest in the same way as the head. The size of each breast is slightly smaller than the head (voluptuous breasts were considered a sign of fertility), each breast is separately tied to the body in turn.

Rice. 6. We tie a red striped ribbon with horns on the head of the Tula doll. For horns, two knots are tied on a strip at a distance of 1.5-2 cm from each other.

Rice. 7-8. The horns are hidden under a scarf. The scarf is tied at the back.

Traditional option with a sundress.

Rice. 9-10. Next, we begin making the sundress. Take a large colored square. Filling: pour a handful of grass of one type, put a rag, pour a handful of another type of grass, put a rag, etc. We alternate layers of rags and grass until we collect enough. The sundress is made in the form of a bag - to do this, we fold the corners onto rags with herbs, collect them along the edges - we get a bag.

Rice. 11-12. We place the upper part of the doll in a sundress bag and tie both parts of the doll (top and bottom) tightly. The upper edge sticks out under the chest - like the breast of a sundress. The entire edge should be folded properly, and the folds should be evenly distributed.

Rice. 13. We tie an apron to the doll using a reverse method. We wrap it with a belt (knitted from wool threads) starting from the front (we tie the apron), we take the threads behind the back, cross them there, lower the apron, bring the ends of the belt forward and tie. The ends of the belt should be equal in length - if the ends are equal, then the hostess is worthwhile.

Rice. 14. Bags of grass are tied to the doll's hands. They are made from squares of fabric. Pour grass into the center of the square and lift the edges of the fabric, forming a bag. We tie it and tie it to the handle of the Egg. After making the doll, you can caress it - knead it in your hands, feel the aroma of herbs, remove tubercles and irregularities.

Option with a skirt

This option is much easier to do.
Points 1-10 are the same. We also make the upper part of the doll, and also lay layers of rags and grass on the square.

Rice. 10b. We bend the edges of the square towards the center, sew along the edges with large stitches (it is better to choose a very strong thread so as not to tear) and tighten it (not yet firmly).

Rice. 11b. Then we place the upper part of the doll in the center of the skirt. You can tie the top and bottom of the doll by pulling the thread very tightly (which was used to sew the edge of the skirt) and tying it.

Rice. 12b. Preparing an apron. We tie it under the chest and straighten it. It can be dressed inside out as in the traditional version (then we make it not very wide) or as shown in Figure 12b (we put a thread on a rectangle of fabric, lower the edge, wrapping the thread, and put the apron on the doll, tying it at the back with this thread) - then it can be made wide, extending back through the sides of the pupa.

Rice. 13b. We also tie bags with fragrant grass to the handles, tie a wicker belt, and the doll is ready!

I hope you liked the idea of creating your own herbalist doll.

Since ancient times, Slavic peoples have used dolls as amulets. It was believed that they were able to protect against the influence of evil spirits, remove the evil eye, help strengthen family relationships, attract the love and attention of others, protect against diseases, help travelers on the road, keep money in the house, and the like. It is clear that there is no universal doll. If a problem needed to be solved, a certain amulet was used. The Herbalist amulet doll helps cure diseases and improve well-being. But these are not all the positive changes it can bring to life. Depending on what herbs it is filled with, the magical effect changes. For example, a herbalist doll helps an unmarried girl meet a reliable man, and helps a family who does housework to always be confident in the future.

Doll amulet Herbalist, history of origin

Doll amulet Herbalist or Kubyshka is magical attribute, requiring careful study. If an ordinary Motanka or Podorozhnitsa is filled with cotton wool, Bogach and Krupenichka are filled with seasonal cereals, then Travnitsa is filled with herbs. They are collected at a certain period of time, with strict observance of the phase of the moon. During production of the dolls, a prayer is read. It is clear that in modern world making a truly effective herbalist will be difficult, since in a large metropolis there are simply no places where you can collect herbs from clean land. But if you try, you can get as close as possible to the old model.

The herbalist has been known to the Slavic peoples since ancient times. Its production is carried out exclusively by women, because it is believed that they are the ones who have a greater inclination towards healing and are open to communication with otherworldly forces. Having realized that herbs have a positive effect on the human body, help strengthen the immune system and treat diseases, our ancestors decided that they had a place in the house. A special storage vessel was needed, which, instead of its natural functions, would create a cozy and festive atmosphere. Dolls are perfect for these purposes.

There was a herbalist in every house, and its contents were replaced every year. Special herbs were selected depending on what ailments plagued the household. If a person in the family fell ill, the Herbalist was instantly moved from the chest of drawers and placed near the head of the bed. It was believed that it helped to heal and restored the natural strength of the body. For children under one year old, the Herbalist was required to be placed in the cradle - it not only protected against diseases, but also protected from the influence of evil spirits, prevented the evil eye from clinging, and the like.

When no one in the house was sick, the herbalist performed other functions. Little children played with her. If everyone grew up, then the amulet was simply hung near the stove or front door. Filled with fragrant herbs, it sterilized, purified the air, and filled it with pleasant aromas. Of course, medicinal herbs helped family members feel better, calm down, sleep well and have wonderful dreams. A herbalist placed in a modern home also performs all these functions. You will no longer need an aroma lamp and sleeping pills to feel comfortable.

Appearance of the doll, features, meaning

The Herbalist doll is unusual and immediately noticeable among other amulets Slavic dolls. The egg capsule has the most rounded shape, it has large hips and a belly. This is done so that a lot of medicinal herbs fit into the thing, and when it begins to dry out, the Herbalist would not become smaller. The doll was dressed in vintage outfits. Necessarily Nice dress and a headscarf. The colors were chosen to be uniquely natural. Green, pink, red, blue and shades of beige are perfect. The importance of the Herbalist cannot be overestimated. This doll is considered universal in matters related to the health of household members. It promotes:

  • strengthening immune functions;
  • sleep stabilization;
  • calming the nervous system;
  • protection against viral diseases;
  • quick recovery;
  • getting rid of negative thoughts, experiences;
  • protection from the entry of evil spirits into the house;
  • protecting young children from the evil eye and much more.

The herbal helps strengthen women's health and energy. A girl could give a herbalist filled with medicinal herbs to her friend as soon as she got married. It was believed that such a gift would help the new owner meet her destiny and live happily together. There are several types of amulet made from medicinal herbs, and, of course, each of them is responsible for a specific healing effect. For example:

  • doll for kids promoted rapid growth, normalize sleep and drive away evil spirits;
  • an amulet with motherwort and oregano calmed and put people in a positive mood;
  • a talisman with lavender, thyme and mint relieved frequent nightmares and insomnia;
  • a doll made of dried dandelion and dill stimulates the appetite - it was hung in the kitchen near the stove;
  • a thing with rue purified the air, so it can often be found in a bathroom or toilet;
  • A doll made from chamomile, wormwood, and tansy sterilizes the air well, drives away rodents and kills viruses, so from ancient times it was hung in barns or cellars where food was stored in winter.

Of course, Kubyshka begins to act according to all the rules only if you are confident in the quality of the herbs used. It is better to collect them yourself, in the field, focusing on the phases of the moon. But you can also choose pharmaceutical drugs, buy on the market. In this case, choose only herbs that were collected this year. They retained maximum nutrients.

How to make a herbalist amulet with your own hands?

Making a Herbalist doll is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. The main thing is to collect natural fabric various colors. Choose non-provocative shades from a light palette. For decoration, you can use buttons and beads made from dried fruits. Here the craftswoman’s imagination plays a decisive role - there are no restrictions. Take several pieces of fabric. Minimum - three. One canvas should have a size of 35 by 35 centimeters, three should be the same, and the third should be for a scarf; its size is selected arbitrarily. The fabrics are not hemmed in any way, so if you want to get a doll that will not fall apart after a few months, then trim the edges using special scissors with zigzag blades. Ordinary ones will not work, as the edge of the fabric will begin to fray after a while. Step by step wizard Class:

  • collect the first canvas beige colour in the middle;
  • twist it with one thread, after filling the top with herbs - this will be the head of the product;
  • make the body in the same way, filling it with herbs as much as possible (note that the capsule will then dry out and become a little smaller);
  • make the base of the doll - tie it at the bottom with threads and try to tuck them into the base.

It turns out something like a nesting doll, where the top part is the smallest, and the third is the largest. Handles can be made from twigs or also from scraps of fabric - at your discretion. You can dress the doll in any way, for example, make her a beautiful linen dress from bright fabric or a home apron. Be sure to tie a scarf on your head; you can also make hair from threads. Imagine - the doll loves when you pay attention to it, it should be bright, unusual and memorable.

The main thing in production is filling. Choose good herbs that you are confident in their quality. If you collected them yourself, then rinse them thoroughly before doing this, chop them finely and dry them. A master class, of course, will be needed at the initial stage, but it will not say anything about the healing properties of herbs and the effectiveness of the doll. You can find out about medical options in the directory. You can mix herbs, come up with your own proportions, and the like. Of course, it is not forbidden to use flowers, dried fruits and even dried fruits. If the fruits are beautiful, then make beads out of them for your doll. The main thing is to never draw eyes or other facial features on the doll. It is believed that spirits can inhabit such things.

Where can I buy a Herbalist amulet doll?

You can make a doll that will work only with your own hands. It is the attitude of the person who is engaged in needlework that is important. Even if your doll is not as beautiful as those sold in online stores, it will be much more effective. Since ancient times, the herbalist has been considered a talisman for household members. Being in your home, the amulet will not only protect your family from diseases, but will also become a beautiful piece of decor.
