Like during Shrovetide week, pancakes were flying out of the oven. Both cheese and cottage cheese - everything flew over the threshold. We'll have fun! You will get it too!

Warm, cheerful, colorful and delicious folk holiday- Maslenitsa! Everyone loves him, young and old. The streets are noisy with folk festivities, children ride down slides, and housewives compete in preparing a variety of pancakes: hearty and sweet, with meat, cottage cheese, jam, honey and, of course, caviar.

But still, Maslenitsa is not just a week in which you can eat well before Lent, but one of ancient holidays Slavs, which goes back to paganism. This week, heralding the beginning of spring and the birth of a “new” sun, has always been awaited with special trepidation.

Feel the original Slavic traditions it is possible today. Throughout the Moscow region, Maslenitsa celebrations are organized for every taste.

In 2018, Maslenitsa week will last from February 12 to 18. The Around Moscow portal tells you where to go and how to spend this holiday with the whole family in an unforgettable and interesting way.

Ice slide ride

The first day of Maslenitsa is called “meeting”. On this Monday, it is customary to install large ice slides in villages and cities, and then roll them out with fun and jokes. This custom is very ancient; our ancestors believed that the further people roll down the hill, and the louder the laughter thunders over the icy hill, the more fertile the land will be in the new year and the longer the flax will grow.

For everyone who wants to contribute to a rich harvest or just have a lot of fun, ice slides will be installed in the Moscow region for Maslenitsa. For example, in Sestroretsky Park in the city of Klin, you can ride a slide created exactly like in the estate of Father Frost; in the evenings it is beautifully illuminated with all the colors of the rainbow.

At the Sergiev Posad State Historical and Art Museum-Reserve in the Moscow region, guests will also be able to ride down an ice slide and take part in fun activities prepared for Maslenitsa. You can take part in master classes, get acquainted with the traditions of the holiday, making souvenirs, and also take part in traditional folk entertainment.

If you want to combine tradition and innovation, go to Dubna, near Moscow. Here, at the highest point of the city, back in the 50s, the famous nuclear scientist Alexei Tyapkin created an artificial mountain. Since then, it has been modified more than once, but still remains a favorite place for city residents to spend fun winter leisure.

Fun games and matchmaking

Tuesday oil week called "flirt". On this day, young boys and girls started funny Games, sang songs and looked closely at each other, so that after matchmaking on Shrove Tuesday, they would have a wedding on “Red Hill”.

Exciting horse riding was a mandatory program; horses were dressed in new harness and decorated with ribbons and bells. Men who intended to start a family in the near future specially bought new sleighs for Maslenitsa, thereby showing the seriousness of their intentions. Today this is not at all necessary, and you can organize Maslenitsa horse riding in one of the horse parks.

For example, when you go to the farmstead “The Little Humpbacked Horse” on Maslenitsa, you can take a tour of the stables where mini-horses live, you can pet them and even braid their hair. The holiday program included traditional Russian fun: sack racing, a snow shooting range, a battle on a snow fortress and, of course, horseback riding - on horseback, in a sleigh, quickly with the wind or a leisurely walk. Well, where would we be without pancakes? They will be here in abundance for every taste and appetite.

Belly Festival

Wednesday is called “gourmet”, and for good reason! It was on this day that housewives baked pancakes with all kinds of fillings and prepared a huge number of other delicacies and treats, so that the table would burst under the weight of the dishes. The treat on this day symbolized fertility and prosperity. Therefore, the menu was dominated by golden and ruddy pastries - all kinds of pies, pies, cheesecakes, pancakes and dumplings. Also on this day, neighbors brewed beer and mead together.

Perhaps the largest pancake event this year will be held in Balashikha, near Moscow. Not only will large-scale cultural events be organized here for the townspeople with the participation of city artists, but they will also bake 12 thousand pancakes, which will feed everyone.

Take a walk

This is what is commonly called the fourth day of pancake week, when Maslenitsa festivities gain momentum in full force. The mummers organize booths, good fellows hold fist fights and storm snow fortresses. All this bright action is accompanied by noisy songs and round dances.

Large-scale Maslenitsa fun will take place in Melikhovo near Moscow.

The bright, creative, and most creative Maslenitsa in Chekhov's style will take place in the scenery of the great writer's estate. The Melikhovo Theater “Chekhov Studio” will show mini-performances based on the great works of the owner of the estate. In addition, there will be a circus program with juggling, clowns and trained animals. Souvenirs can be purchased at the folk crafts fair and even made yourself. For those who are hungry, a real paradise awaits you in the “Obzhorny Ryad” - hot pancakes and piping hot pies, aromatic kebab and hot drinks.

Visiting mother-in-law

Friday is mother-in-law's day. It is customary to carry out family circle, arranging gatherings at a deliciously set table, where Special attention sons-in-law gave to their mothers-in-law in order to strengthen family relationships. If you are planning to arrange a family feast and please your beloved mother-in-law, you can buy gifts for her at one of the Maslenitsa fairs, which this year will be organized in all municipalities of the capital region.

Why not make it a surprise and take the whole family on a little weekend trip?
