Prologue.

All music in this performance was written by G. Gladkov, lyrics by V. Lugovoy. The recording contains instrumental music. Mrs. Morality comes to the fore.

Mrs. Morality. I greet you, my young friends, on our long-awaited New Year's holiday! Today, on the eve of the New Year, I would like to tell you one very interesting educational tale! This is a story about friendship, mutual assistance, the struggle between good and evil, the pursuit of the intended goal, in general, we will tell you the old story on new way!
Before our story begins, I want to introduce you to two very nice guys. But here’s the problem: Masha believes in fairy tales, but Vitya, alas, doesn’t! (Calls.) Masha! (Masha comes out.) Vitya! (Vitya appears.) Here they are, our main characters of today’s story, which is about to begin! (Waves his magic wand and leaves.)

Masha(interrupts). And I - I believed in fairy tales and will continue to believe! For example, now, on the eve of the New Year, I am more than sure that Santa Claus will definitely appear and some miracle will happen!
Vitya. Nothing like this will happen, you don’t even have to hope, let’s go and play on the computer!

Suddenly, the ringing of silver bells is heard in the recording, and then the melody of snowflakes dancing. Here Father Frost appears on the stage, surrounded by beautiful Snowflakes. They dance around him, then disappear from the stage. Masha is very happy, Vitya is surprised.

Father Frost. Hello guys! Hello, Masha and Vitya!
Masha(joyfully). You see, I told you that real miracles can happen on New Year’s Eve! But you didn’t believe it!
Vitya. Indeed, miracles are truly miracles!
Masha. Grandfather Frost, where is your granddaughter Snegurochka?
Father Frost(sighs). No, guys, our dear Snow Maiden! Koschey the Immortal stole it, took it to his dark kingdom, and locked it in the basement! Hear, he sings!

“Song of the Snow Maiden” can be heard in the recording. She grieves in the basement of Koshchei the Immortal.

Masha and Vitya(after the song). Poor thing! I feel sorry for her!
Father Frost. And the worst thing is that the New Year will not come without the Snow Maiden!

The stage lighting becomes mysterious. The recording sounds magical music. Santa Claus waves his staff and says magic words.

Let's start a fairy tale!

Metelitsa appears on the stage with her assistants – Snowflakes. They pick up Masha and Vitya in the dance and disappear from the stage with them.

On stage is the scenery of Baba Yaga's hut. There is a stove at the back of the stage, and a table with two chairs at the front. There is a large screen in the middle of the stage. The recording features “Song of Wild Guitars.” Baba Yaga appears with a guitar in her hands, Matvey the Cat with a guitar, Leshy with a drum. They belt out their song loudly. The song is almost finished, but Leshy continues to beat the drum with all his might. Baba Yaga and Matvey the Cat cover their ears from the roar.

Baba Yaga. Leshy, Leshy! Enough! Besides, now you're beating your favorite drum very out of tune!

Turns on the TV. The recording includes “Masha and Vitya’s marching song.” They appear on the big screen, walk and sing together. Evil spirits begin to rush around the stage. Baba Yaga turns off the TV after the song.

Baba Yaga(threateningly to Matvey). What else is this?
Cat Matvey(menacingly Leshy). What else is this?
The goblin looks around, helplessly trying to convey this phrase further, but, unfortunately, it all ends there. He spreads his hands and sighs.

The evil spirits begin to walk around the stage, reflect, think and, of course, scratch their heads.
Goblin(I think I made it up). Or maybe this...
Baba Yaga and Matvey. What is this?
Goblin(shrugs shoulders). Forgot!
Baba Yaga. Yah you! Think!
Leshy and Matvey. We think!

They walk back and forth across the stage again.

Cat Matvey. Or maybe by force? (Jumps and crushes someone very small, imaginary with his paw.) Once and that’s it!
Baba Yaga. Nope! A subtle approach is needed here! This is probably the trick that will do! Come here closer to me, I will tell you the plan of action! They need to be separated!

Leshy and Matvey run up to Baba Yaga. She spreads a map of the forest on the table.

Baba Yaga. Masha and Vitka are here now! (Points at the map.) Surely they are already tired from the long journey. Now, with your help, I will quickly turn into a kind, pretty fairy! We will lure Masha and Vitka to my house... I will give them something to drink... I will feed them... I will put them to bed... And when they fall asleep, here we are...
Leshy and Matvey(rubs hands and giggles). Let's eat!
Baba Yaga. Absolutely right! How understanding you are! Now let's quickly help the hut and me in good fairy transform.

The recording sounds “Baba Yaga’s kind song” (“Dinner and overnight stay await you here...”). The goblin is sweeping the hut. Matvey puts a samovar, cups and saucers, pies, pancakes, and bagels on the table. Baba Yaga changes into a beautiful light outfit and ties a bow on her head. Then he looks through binoculars.

Baba Yaga. Masha and Vitya are approaching the hut! Hide!

Leshy and Matvey the Cat disappear behind the scenes. Masha and Vitya appear from the doors of the auditorium. They see Baba Yaga's hut.

Masha. Oh, Vitya, look, a hut on chicken legs!
Vitya. Optical illusion!
Baba Yaga. Oh, hello guys!
Masha and Vitya. Hello! And who are you?
Baba Yaga. I? And I am a good fairy!
Masha and Vitya(with disbelief). Ahh! It's clear…

Baba Yaga. Well, okay, okay, I’ll help you a little, I’ll show you the way to the kingdom of Koshchei the Immortal, but then! Now come on in, eat a little, rest, because to fight Koshchei you will need a lot of strength! Come on in! Come on in! (Sits the children at the table.) Eat, here’s tea with milk, here’s some hot pancakes, here’s some pies! Eat! Eat! (Rubs his hands behind the guys’ backs.) Eat! Eat!

Masha and Vitya refresh themselves with pancakes, pies and tea with milk.

Baba Yaga(carefully). Now climb onto the stove and get some sleep. (She covers Masha and Vitya with a blanket.) Sleep! Sleep!

Masha falls asleep. Vitya pretends to be asleep. Baba Yaga gives a sign to Matvey the Cat and Leshy. They take out a cauldron, a hearth, bottles with fly agarics, toadstools and wolf berries, as well as frogs and spiders. The recording includes “Baba Yaga’s Evil Song” (“Kipi, water, burn, hearth…”). Baba Yaga is dancing. She casts a spell over the cauldron, adding various terrible “ingredients” to it. Vitya sees Baba Yaga’s transformation and begins to wake Masha.

Vitya. Masha! Masha, wake up!
Masha(stretching). Well, what else do you need?
Vitya. Masha, look what's happening!
Masha(oohing). Oh, Vitya, this is not a fairy, but the real Baba Yaga! What should we do, Vitya?
Vitya(busily). Calm down, Masha, my dad, a candidate of technical sciences, explained to me how a powder engine works, and I happen to have some gunpowder with me.

Baba Yaga runs for a new portion of “ingredients”, Matvey and Leshy follow her. The guys jump off the stove and run to the mortar standing in the corner. Vitya is doing something at the bottom of the mortar with gunpowder, then helps Masha get into the mortar. Children join hands.

Children. 1, 2, 3! Let's fly!

The recording shows the sound of a stupa flying away. The stage is dark, only colored lights flicker. Baba Yaga, Matvey the Cat and Leshy appear on the proscenium in the spotlight. They watch the flight of the stupa, shake their fists, then whisper and run backstage.
