Master class on decoupage: decorating kitchen boards. Decoupage cutting board with napkins

A cutting board is not such a status item, but with its help you can decorate your kitchen and give it originality. You can give this kitchen utensil to relatives or close friends, but it will be even better if you add originality to the very appearance of the cutting board. In addition, a wooden plane is the best blank for decoupage, with which you can begin to get acquainted with this amazing technique of implanting a picture into a surface.

For flat objects, you can use large fragments of the design, for example, the entire quarter of the selected napkin. And here the novice master will be faced with a problem: gluing a fragment without creases, cracks, or bubbles is not so easy. And there may be problems with finishing the background: not everyone will be able to choose the right color the first time. To avoid mistakes, you need to start with simple work.

Let's talk about decorating a cutting board using the file method (direct decoupage) without painting the background, with cutting out the background from the napkin itself.

Materials for decoupage

For work you will need the following materials and items:

  • Napkins with a large pattern (the motifs with olive oil and a plain background for the picture are taken here);
  • We will still remake a wooden cutting board decorated using any technique;
  • Sandpaper of two or three types from coarse to fine;
  • Scissors;
  • PVA glue;
  • Glue stick;
  • White acrylic paint;
  • Soft brush;
  • Bowl with water;
  • Cotton swab;
  • Acrylic varnish in a can.

Work order

Free the wooden cutting board from any decor. If a pattern is applied to it, like ours, then it can be sanded with sandpaper (this will take quite a lot of time) and then painted over (so that the pattern is not visible through the white paint).

Use acrylic paint to paint the tree on the side where the decor will be. Try not to stain the working surface of your kitchen utensils. When applying paint, it is better to use a dishwashing sponge rather than a brush. “Stomp” the sponge, clamped in a clothespin, along the plane of the board until there are fewer paint bubbles.

Apply 2 layers of paint this way. After the surface has dried, it needs to be leveled with two types of sandpaper. For finishing sanding, you can use the back of a dishwashing sponge.

Now it's time to choose a napkin. Motifs depicting food, seasonings or drinks look best in the kitchen. Take a napkin with olive oil painted on it. This napkin is good because it has not only motifs, but also a background.

Measure the napkin and board, figure out where the main motif will be glued. Please note that when the paper gets wet, it stretches by 0.5 - 0.8 cm, and the position of the motif will shift. You should not try to place the picture exactly in the middle; perfectionism is not what is needed here. The motif itself is asymmetrical, and olive branches extending beyond the frame will smooth out the position of the picture not in the middle.

Try on the central motif on the board.

The peculiarity of this craft, as already mentioned, is that the background will not be completed, but will be glued from fragments of the same napkin. To fill the lower part, we suggest taking the inscription “Oleum Olivarum” (“ olive oil"). The goal is: as few seams as possible. Therefore, we plan to glue the letters, aligned along the right edge, and again not in the middle. In this case, it is important to cut out the foliage and carefully tear the background so that it lies unnoticeably on a napkin of the same color.

Attention! You only need to glue the bottom part after the main motif has dried! The napkin that will lie on the previous layer should have an uneven, “torn” edge for the best connection with the base. To dry the first layer, you can use a hairdryer, but not with hot air, but with warm air (1-2 modes).

Layer the napkin, leaving only the colorful layer.

Now you need to iron the napkin from the wrong side with an iron. Once you get the hang of it, you can learn how to sprinkle the paper with salt water so that when ironing, the bumps that are visible on the napkin disappear.

Place the drawing face down on the file. Drip some water from your brush into the center. Pour water, smoothly leveling the napkin, expelling air bubbles from under it. Try not to touch the napkin with your hands so as not to damage the paint layer.

As you can see in the next photo, the napkin sticks to the file. We can say that first we made decoupage on the file in the reverse way, and then - from the file to the board - in the direct way. Excess water Drain the file onto a towel.

Leave the file with the motif for a few minutes, spread the board with a glue stick.

Carefully place the napkin on the intended place, smooth it out and carefully remove the file so that the napkin does not reach for it.

In the same way - using a file - glue the bottom part of the decor with the inscription.

Since there is a very small fragment free at the bottom, find a suitable piece of the background and glue it until the bottom part is dry. Smooth out gently.

Pay attention to the edge: the extra napkin protrudes beyond the board. Tear it off or cut it so that the edge bends slightly onto the side.

Glue a suitable fragment onto the handle of the board. Dry it. After this, you can make a hole using a toothpick and a cotton swab.

Creativity is an impulse of the soul, its manifestation in the best colors and, most importantly, the opportunity to use your talents to good effect. For example, decoupage of cutting boards for the kitchen with napkins is now very popular. The topic of decoupage is so broad that it can be discussed endlessly.

If you research the technology of decoupage painting yourself, you can create incredible products with your own hands that can decorate your home or become an original gift close people. If we look at decoupage boards step by step, we can see from personal example that the technology, in principle, is not as complicated as it might seem at first glance.

Technology:

  • The surface of the board is sanded;
  • Impregnation with a primer is carried out;
  • White acrylic paint is applied;
  • The drawing is applied;
  • Varnishing is carried out;
  • Each layer of applied and dried varnish is sanded.

Advice for beginners. You shouldn’t rush to do decoupage boards, you need to look at examples of work, study the master class presented below, and only after that start doing the work yourself.

For the first time, say, while studying decoupage, it is worth preparing:

  1. A special glue is suitable, but PVA can also be used, however, over time it turns yellow;
  2. Acrylic varnish on water based, which can be purchased at any store selling construction and finishing materials;
  3. White acrylic paint;
  4. Artistic acrylic paints;
  5. Napkins, which can be ordinary household ones or specially chosen because of the original design;
  6. Fine and coarse sandpaper.

How to decoupage a cutting board step by step: photos and examples

Basically, decoupage of kitchen boards is carried out, both old and new. Wood is considered a particularly malleable material that is pleasant and convenient to work with. The design of the cutting board can be a completely different ornament, even a map of the world, or it can be an icon, chess pieces and the like. Now, on the eve New Year's holidays, there is a great demand for boards designed in the direction of this theme.

In general, it is worth learning such processes for creating decoupage as:

  • Sanding the surface;
  • Soil grinding;
  • Gluing a napkin pattern onto a board.

If you plan to use the board in the future, it must be coated with a particularly durable and waterproof varnish. It is advisable to choose parquet for floorboards or yacht, they are the most durable and have excellent characteristics.

If the product is decorative, then one layer and the use of acrylic varnish is enough.

By bringing your ideas to life, you will be able to discover not only a lot of talents within yourself, but also the unreal ability to create miracles and give gifts to your family self made, which are much closer and more pleasant to the heart than purchases made in a store.

Decoupage boards with napkins

Making decoupage using pictures from napkins is not easy, but it is possible.

The effect of the product will not take long to arrive.

  1. You need to choose a napkin that will have the desired design on it. It should be thin, like a veil, so that you can easily transfer the picture to the board. In this case, we will consider a canvas with an image of an apple.
  2. To create chic means to feel every moment of the creation process as carefully as possible. That is why, to cut out a picture, you should use small and neat nail scissors.
  3. The place where the apples will be located on the board must be carefully primed. To do this, you need to outline the stencil of the picture with a pencil, and fill the coating with a primer inside the outline. After this, while the primer dries, you need to separate the lower, unnecessary layers from the napkin. The material should become as thin as possible.
  4. By using acrylic primer and a brush, the primer composition is applied. Some people use foam sponges to apply, but if the pattern is small, then it is better to use a brush.
  5. When the soil just begins to dry out, you can stick a napkin on it. To do this, you need to dilute the glue with a small volume of water. Gluing is carried out from the top of the napkin. The adhesive composition is applied little by little using a brush. In the same way, the napkin is applied to the board carefully and in small parts. The formation of folds and bubbles is strictly excluded, which will not only spoil appearance products, but also the durability of decoupage.
  6. If defects do form, you can get rid of them using a regular spoon. Even without much experience, anyone who wants to make the perfect surprise can remove defects.
  7. Once the previous process is completed, the acrylic varnish can be applied. You can use foam rubber for this.

After the first layer has dried, you can decorate the outline of the board. In this case, different scales or waves will be created, as you can see better. It is worth noting that only the outline of the scales is created, since their internal space should be empty. The inside can be filled with craquelure or gilded paint. Both will look perfect.

Be sure to highlight the contours of the apple with acrylic paints to make them clear and bright.

Mother-of-pearl paint with yellow tint. This creates a pouring effect on the apples, and they look like they are real. Next, another layer of varnish is applied and the product is left to dry completely.

What is required to create competent and beautiful decoupage boards

Previously, decoupage was considered the art of the poor, just like cheese balls, which were made, literally, from scrap materials.

In general, why is this type of creativity called budgetary:

  1. You don’t need to study or attend courses for it.
  2. An ordinary board can be used as a base.
  3. No need to purchase expensive materials.

Likewise, decoupage is considered a cheap craft. To create pictures and compositions, you can use things that are in the home, in particular, napkins, boards, paints and more.

It is worth noting that decoupage can be done not only on a wooden cutting board, but also on the surface of interior items, albums, plates, ceramic dishes, as well as on mirrors, notebooks and similar products.

Decoupage boards for the kitchen without problems

There will be no problems at all with finding images, because there are an incredible number of sources. For example, newspapers, magazines, books, napkins and even ordinary wrapping paper, including fabric and lace.

In order to cut out the design, you can use stationery knives and razor blades.

In order to smooth out the pattern, you can use small rollers, spoons and even a rolling pin. It is strictly forbidden to leave excess glue, as it will turn yellow and spoil the appearance of the design. To remove, you can use paper, cloth, sponge and even a brush. As a coating for decoupage, polyurethane varnish, acrylic aerosols, yacht aerosols, and the like are used.

If we talk even more briefly about decoupage, then this is:

  • The opportunity to express yourself and your individual style;
  • An option to make your home more attractive, stylish and original;
  • The opportunity to become an artist without attending courses or a special school;
  • Creativity that does not require investment;
  • A task that can be done at home and in any convenient and comfortable place;
  • The ability to make an original gift from an ordinary cutting board;
  • A case suitable for all ages;
  • Possibility to use various materials for drawing.

Decoupage cutting board (video)

Just imagine, you have the opportunity to create a masterpiece with your own hands, a copy of which will not be found in any corner of the entire planet.

Using decoupage you can turn simple things into fabulous ones. Just look at this colorful board! Detailed decoupage lesson will help you make the same one and decorate your kitchen with it.

For work we will need:

  • wooden cutting board;
  • napkins for decoupage;
  • acrylic primer;
  • PVA glue or decoupage glue;
  • acrylic pearlescent paints;
  • brushes;
  • pencil;
  • nail scissors;
  • wood burning device;
  • a small piece of foam rubber or a small sponge.
  • The board on which you will do decoupage must first be sanded. You can do this with fine sandpaper. If you purchased a special board for decoupage, then most likely it is already ready to work.

    Nowadays you can find a huge number of master classes on the Internet. by decoupage. In most of them, the entire surface of the board is covered with soil. However, I really wanted to preserve the texture of the wood, so in this tutorial we will not prime the entire surface.

    So let's get started.

    Choose the napkin you will use for decoupage. You can choose not one, but several napkins and combine them. I'll stick with a napkin with large apples.

    Using nail scissors, cut out the apples. Napkins for decoupage are usually multi-layered. However, do not rush to get rid of excess layers just yet. You'll understand why a little later.

    I already said above that I will not prime the entire surface of the board. I will only need to prime the area under the apples. Therefore, we place the cut out apples on the board and trace them with a pencil. Since we did not separate the layers from the napkin, it is more or less dense, and it is easier to trace it. You don't need to press the pencil too hard, just let the line be slightly noticeable.

    Using acrylic primer and a brush, prime the area under the apples. Very often, priming is done using a small piece of foam rubber. But in our case, it is more convenient to do this with a brush, since it is better to paint over the details.

    While the soil dries, remove excess layers from the napkin. Carefully! Try not to tear the napkin.

    When the soil dries, you can start gluing the napkin. To do this, dilute PVA glue with a small amount of water. Starting from the top, we will gradually coat the primed area with glue and apply a napkin. This must be done very carefully, trying to avoid bubbles and folds. But even if they appear, don’t be upset! Everything can be fixed.

    Of course, it is impossible to glue the napkin perfectly evenly. Even experienced craftswomen have small bubbles or folds. Therefore, if you also have them, take an ordinary spoon in your hands and carefully begin to smooth out the unevenness.

    When you get rid of all the bubbles, the board can be coated with acrylic varnish. For example, like this:

    This can be done conveniently using a small piece of foam rubber.

    After the varnish has dried, we begin decorating the outline of the board. To do this, use a burning device to make small “scales” along the edge. Burn only the silhouette of the “scale”; let it remain empty inside. We will then cover this void with gold.

    Now we will outline the contours of the apple and the board with acrylic paints.

    For the outline of the apples and “scales” I used pearlescent acrylic paint yellow color. It looks very much like gold. Then we will paint the stem and highlights on the leaves with brown and green paint.

    Cover the board again with acrylic varnish and let it dry. The board is ready!

    Decoupage has a very rich and interesting story. Decoupage is not associated with any specific country or time, decoupage takes its origins from various styles and many countries. Already in the 12th century in China, peasants made cutouts from bright colored paper to later decorate windows, lanterns, gift boxes and others, so to speak. everyday things.
    Some argue that decoupage came to China from Siberian nomads, who decorated objects in tombs with carved felt figures and compositions. At the same time, German and Polish craftsmen have also used paper cutouts for decoration for several centuries. Polish women and children developed especially good skills in working with colored paper.
    The word decoupage comes from the French “to cut.” Accordingly, the “decoupage technique” is a technique of decoration, decoration using cut out paper motifs. Nowadays, motifs are often cut out of three-layer napkins, which is why decoupage in some languages has received a different name - napkin technique. But adhesive motifs aren't limited to just napkins.
    These could be illustrations from magazines, wrapping paper, labels. IN Lately The use of printer printouts is widespread. And, in fact, the only unifying basis in this technique: cutting out motifs.
