I sewed a T-shirt from velvet (two rectangles), sewed a beaded frill on it (I wove it a long time ago) and white lace. Since the frill itself is quite heavy, I also sewed small straps from ribbons (they were not visible, they were hidden under the bolero).

I sewed the bolero according to a pattern from the Internet, treated the open sections with bias tape (oh, if only someone had taught me how to sew it on correctly), the cuffs were the remains of a polka dot ribbon from the skirt, the wings and tail were folded satin ribbon, sewn on by hand, it was easily sewn you can unpick and wear a bolero in Everyday life. I wanted to make a beak, but I didn’t like the idea of a beak sticking out of the forehead, and I couldn’t figure out how else to make it. A couple of days before the matinee I received, and there were black and white hairpins, so I decided to put them on my head))))

Most of the materials were found at home, purchased - black tulle, black satin ribbon (for the bottom of the skirt, wings and tail), black polka dot ribbon, I also bought a hairpin with black feathers, but it was not used. The teachers said that the costume was very original, and that they had never had such a magpie (and they have been working in the kindergarten for a long time). By the way, for some reason, in all the magpie costumes, the children have a white frill on the chest, although the bird itself has a black breast, and there is white on the tummy below, on the back and on the tips of the wings. Therefore, our costume is not entirely “correct”, but we all really liked it)))

Fabric outfit

For the base of the wings, take rectangle. Its length is equal to the distance from wrist to wrist of the little actor, and its width is about half a meter. Fold the rectangle in half and round the corners of the fabric with scissors. Divide the resulting semicircle in half into two wings, hem the sections or process them with an overlocker.

Cut feathers 7 cm high from individual flaps. To make the work go faster, you can fold the fabric into several layers, then from one strip you will get several feathers. Having prepared the feathers, proceed to sewing. Place the feathers on the base of the wing, starting from the bottom, and stitch row by row.

Sew satin ribbon to join the top of the wings and add ties in the middle to hold the entire piece at the shoulders and waist. Additionally sew ribbons for fixing on the wrists. The crow's cloak is ready.

Paper raven decoration

Making a costume will not require large financial investments, but please be patient and take time. There will be work for the baby too, so together the time spent and communication will not be in vain.

Make a costume consisting of a T-shirt with a tail, wings and a headdress. To work you will need:

black cotton fabric- 1.5 m;
elastic knitwear - 0.5 m;
black shoe laces;
black elastic band - 30 cm;
round elastic band - 20 cm;

ink or black gouache and brush;

scissors.

Start crafting with the wings. Measure bent at the elbow the length of the baby's arm from hand to shoulder. On paper, make a pattern shaped like a crow's wing. The length of the wing is equal to the measurement of your hand, choose the width as desired. Transfer the pattern to the fabric and cut out. Make the detail of the second wing in a mirror image.

In order for a suit to fit well on a child, durable fastenings for the wings. Measure the elastic band along the shoulder and cut to the required length. Make two identical rubber bands. T-shirt with a tail. If you don’t have a ready-made black T-shirt or T-shirt, then take a child’s regular T-shirt to make the pattern. Attach it to a piece of black knitwear, outline it with chalk or a piece of soap and cut out two halves.

Machine sew the side parts and sew laces on the shoulders (two laces for each shoulder). Attach feathers in a chaotic order to the back of the T-shirt with glue and sew on a tail. To make the tail, cut out a long triangle onto which you glue the finished paper feathers.

The paper outfit is ready, it is suitable for a New Year's party and for staging a play. Wear black leggings and black shoes under your suit. Put the wings on your child first, then a T-shirt on top, it will cover the elastic bands and ties.

Dress made from garbage bags

To start creativity you need an idea. If the teacher gave you an idea and said that your daughter will be a crow at the matinee, then all you have to do is come up with the style of the costume and choose the material for production. An unusual, inexpensive, lightweight material for creating any carnival outfit are garbage bags:

green - for decorating the Christmas tree;
blue and white - for decorating snowflakes;
black - suitable for a crow costume.

Choose a style for your future dress. Remember that clothes should be comfortable for the baby, so long dress will be inconvenient for the child. To work you will need:

The raven is a strict, wise, and at the same time spectacular bird, so an appropriate costume is needed. But it’s hard to imagine him without a beak and feathers on his head, so make a headdress. There are many options - masks, hats, hoods. Having chosen an option, proceed to creating the main accessory.

Simple Crow Mask Cap

A mask for a New Year's party can be made in origami style and secured with glue for strength. To do this, you will need a sheet of paper 41 cm long and 30 cm wide. Using a ruler, divide the short side into three equal parts and draw parallel lines. Measure 10 and 20 cm on straight lines on one side and place dots. Make cuts along the length of the sheet 10 cm to the first point, and across the length - from the second point to the drawn lines.

Turn the sheet over so that the lines are on the bottom. Glue the side strips to the middle strip one by one, like the edges of a box. Let the glue dry, the back of the cap mask is ready.

Now fold the middle cuts and glue them to the base of the cap at an angle of 45 degrees. The result is a hat with a wide visor, from which you need to make a beak. Fold the edges of the front part corner to corner and make a fold of 5 cm. Fold the edges of the beak inward. The fold in the middle will be the center of the raven's nose. Glue the edges of the paper from the bottom.

All that remains is to paint the mask black, make a white rim around the eyes, paint the beak yellow, and draw the nostrils.

Beanie cap

Take a simple children's hat and make a pattern using the principle of a T-shirt. Trace onto the fabric and connect the two pieces.

Cut two 10 x 10 cm squares from paper and cover black paint or mascara on one side. Fold the dried squares into triangles, bending two corners towards the middle. Glue the resulting blanks and connect them to each other. For beauty, glue red stripes in the beak. Fix the finished beak on the headdress.

If the boy is a schoolboy, then you probably have a black school suit. You don’t need to sew anything onto it, just wear a black turtleneck and black shoes under your suit. A simple material you will need for a top hat is paper. Take black paper or then paint the finished headdress with black paint. To make a cylinder you will need:

Whatman paper or cardboard 1 mm thick;
compass and ruler;
PVA glue and brushes;

You need to get three parts from cardboard:

circle (bottom of the cylinder);
rectangle (for crown);
a circle with a hole in the center (its diameter is equal to the bottom of the hat).

Before you start making a hat, take measurements for the pattern. Using a tailor's tape, measure the circumference of the head and calculate the radius of the circle at the base of the cylinder. The circumference of a child's head is, for example, 50 cm, then the radius will be 50 / (2 * 3.14) = 50 / 6.28 = 8 cm.

Using a compass, draw a circle with a radius of 8 cm. From the same center, draw a circle equal to the width of the hat brim. Carefully cut out a large circle. Without cutting the margins, remove the smaller circle from it. You now have two parts: the fields and the base of the cylinder.

The crown is the upper part of the hat from the bottom to the brim. To make a crown, draw a rectangle on paper with a width equal to the circumference of the child’s head and a height equal to the height of the hat. Leave a 2 cm allowance on both sides of the width to fasten the cylinder and cut the allowances in 2 cm increments. You have the third part ready.

You can collect a hat. First of all, glue the crown. Apply glue to the allowance along the height and overlap the edges of the rectangle: a cylinder is formed.

Bend the notched allowances of the cylinder perpendicularly: for the lower part outward, for the upper part - inward. Apply a little glue to the bottom allowances, put the brim through the pipe part and press tightly to the glued elements.

Apply glue to the top seams and carefully glue the base of the hat.

The hat is almost ready, all that remains is to paint the product black.

Raven mask with beak

To make the image realistic, create a paper crow mask with your own hands using a ready-made papier-mâché template in the shape of the child’s face. Black feathers and a massive beak are the main details of the image. To work you will need:

making a crow mask for your head (you can print it on a printer);
cardboard;
black tape;
scissors;
old newspapers;
black paint and brushes;
salt and flour for paste;
glue and glitter;
black feathers;
acrylic lacquer.

Before making a crow's beak out of paper, draw and cut out an equilateral triangle from cardboard, bend it in half to make a semblance of a beak. Take the finished template and use tape to stick the beak onto the mask in the nose area.

Mix two parts flour and one part salt with a glass of water. Connect the components carefully.

Tear old newspaper into small strips. Soak pieces of paper in the flour mixture and apply masks to the workpiece. Make four layers of papier-mâché. By applying more and fewer layers in different places, you can give relief to the beak: mark the hump in the middle, outline the notches at the nostrils. Let the product dry.

Using a wide brush, paint the finished mask with black paint and immediately sprinkle with glitter. Once completely dry, remove any excess glitter powder. Apply a thin strip of glue along the entire contour of the mask and glue black feathers along the edge of the mask. You can glue on several layers of feathers for pomp.

Cover the finished beak with shiny varnish and let dry. Decorate the eye holes with shiny rhinestones.

Magpie - sister of the crow

The costume of the white-sided magpie differs from that of the crow only in color. The crow is completely black, while the magpie has a white chest, sides and part of the feathers on the wings.

To create a magpie costume you need two colors of fabric, black and white. A lot of bright jewelry will come in handy: beads, earrings, bracelets, toys.

Take a square piece of black fabric and cut a circle on it, the diameter of which should be equal to the distance from the neck to the child’s hand. Cut the circle radius to the center. The base of the cape is almost ready. Finish the edges with an overlocker. Sew ribbons for fastening on the neck and small loops of elastic bands for attaching to the finger. Make a collar and cuffs from white fabric. Cut feathers from a 7 cm wide ribbon and sew them to the cape.

New Year costume decorate with Christmas tree tinsel. Sew a beak triangle and eyes from yellow felt with black buttons to the finished hat.

Next, you need to measure the length of the girl’s arms, making sure to add 10-15 centimeters to the result obtained. This is done so that the wings cover the children's palms and hang down slightly. Once you've decided on the size, feel free to cut out the black wings for your magpie costume.

It is in the same way that white wings are prepared. The only difference is that they should be made narrower and shorter, unlike black ones, so that after sewing together, the latter can be seen from under the wings white. By the way, in white ones the middle is then cut out. The wings are sewn together with white threads.

All that remains is to sew an elastic band on the back side - to secure the wings on the palm and prevent them from slipping when the child moves. And the last thing: sew the resulting part to the outfit itself.

If you plan to perform in a Sorokin costume New Year's party, then you can use tinsel to decorate it. Other wing options are also possible.

Sewing a scarf

We stock up on the following necessary materials:

White calico (70 cm).
Black lining fabric (should remain from the wings).
Glue gun.
Scissors.
White satin ribbon.
White threads.

From the purchased piece of fabric you need to cut an isosceles triangle. If you have time, the scarf can be decorated with a satin ribbon sewn along the contour. If there is none, then it is hemmed manually or by machine.

Remember, we still have black fabric in stock. She will go to cutting out circles. Their number is arbitrary. These circles are glued to the scarf with hot glue. You see that making a magpie costume with your own hands is not at all difficult.

Making a beak for an outfit

Here the main material will be black cardboard. It is rolled into a narrow cone and glued together. Be sure to try it on so that the size of this part matches the child’s nose. The glued cone is trimmed if necessary. In the upper part, do not forget to pierce a couple of holes on the side so that the child can breathe.

The beak can also be made slightly open. Then you need to cut out another narrow piece in the shape of a triangle (it should be shorter than the length of the beak) and glue it at the bottom. To put on the beak, use a thin rubber band.

You can make a tail by analogy with wings. Only its dimensions should be smaller. The materials you will need are a small piece of fabric (you need black and white). From this segment we will cut out one tail (black, long), another white tail (short) and the last one should be black, it will be the smallest. They are all cut out by eye; no templates are required for this.

After connecting the tail parts, they are stitched together. Then the ponytail is sewn on the back of the dress or skirt (depending on what will be used as the basis for the outfit). For decoration, you can trim the hem of the dress with white tinsel. Since our heroine is crazy about everything shiny, the use of beads and other bright decorations will come in handy.

If you don't like this black and white version of the outfit, you can work on creating a cartoon image. In this case, you will need a white blouse, bright skirt and a scarf, as well as an apron.

Everyone has a white blouse with short sleeves (or a T-shirt) and a black skirt in their wardrobe. We have a one-piece dress that has been lying around for two whole years and has not been worn even once, who would have thought that it would later make an excellent costume for a magpie). And the color matched it perfectly - black and white and the sleeves were short so that I could sew on the wings later.

How to make magpie wings

For the wings, I bought the cheapest lining fabric, well, judge for yourself, buying an expensive one just to use it for 40 minutes, no, that’s not for me.

Unfortunately, I didn’t film this stage, because as I wrote above, I wasn’t going to write an article about it, because I did it all at random, and I didn’t know what would happen. But I made sketches on paper, and now I’ll tell you everything in detail.

We take black lining fabric, ours is 80 cm, fold it in half lengthwise to make two canvases, their size will be approximately 40 width and length, depending on the fabric, up to 1.5 m maybe. Now we measure the length of your child’s arm from the shoulder and add 10-15 cm to this size so that the wings can cover the child’s palms and hang down a little.

For black wings, with my daughter’s dimensions, I needed two canvases 40 cm wide and 80 cm long. I didn’t have any template for cutting out the wings; I cut them out right away on the fabric, just as I imagined and cut them out. If you are afraid of ruining the fabric, make a template on cardboard, only you will need a very large sheet of cardboard, draw a wing on it and then cut it out by applying it to the fabric. Cut out two black wings to your measurements.

In the same way, we cut out two white wings from white lining fabric, but they should be narrower in size and shorter in length than the black ones, so that later when we sew them to each other, the black wings are clearly visible from under the white ones.

I will not indicate the sizes here, you must adjust them based on the size of the black wings. The only difference in the white wings is to cut out the middle later. When you cut out the wings from white fabric, cut out the middle of both, in the sketch I drew the cut out area shaded.

Now we put the white wings with the middle cut out on the black ones and sew them on using white threads. I sewed everything by hand, although we have a sewing machine, but it’s easier for me this way).

I recommend carefully burning the wings, just don’t burn them) so that they don’t fray, although this fabric doesn’t fray much, there is still a tendency for this, so to make the wings look neat, I burned them with matches, we will need a lot of them. You can also use a candle, but I felt uncomfortable with a candle. Now we sew an elastic band on the back side so that the wings are secured to the palm and they do not slip when moving.

It's time to sew the magpie's wings onto a dress, or blouse, or white T-shirt. I just attached the wings to the dress, but so that they would not come off, of course, at the matinee itself, then after the matinee, we calmly and carefully removed the wings from the clothes and we will wear a dress, and someone else a blouse.

It is possible to decorate the wings, if the costume is intended for a New Year's party, to decorate with thin tinsel. If this is a different holiday, then tinsel is not needed. You can see in the photo that I sewed tinsel onto the wings, where we have a cutout on the white wings, and the tinsel runs along the contour.

How to sew a scarf for a magpie

You've probably noticed that in cartoons a magpie or a crow often wears a headscarf, so I thought it was the best option and the simplest one, you don’t need to buy a magpie cap separately, which by the way costs 700 rubles, just a cap with a beak and eyes. And our entire ready-made magpie costume will barely cost 300 rubles). So look how profitable it is to do everything yourself, the savings are significant.

I was in some thought about what material to use for the scarf. I immediately imagined a white scarf with large polka dots, but where can I get such ready-made material? I went around all the fabric stores in our city, fortunately there are not many of them, I found a more or less suitable material with polka dots, but a meter of it cost 250 rubles, no, well, that’s a lot for 40 minutes for a headscarf, I thought. And she got out of the situation in a different way. For the scarf we need:

Buy 70 cm of white calico
Black lining fabric (remnants from black wings)
Glue gun

White satin ribbon 5 cm wide - about 3 m

With a scarf, everything is very simple, we take a purchased piece of fabric and cut out an isosceles triangle from it, and this is the one whose opposite sides are equal. This is where geometry comes in handy, friends).

And now we need to sew a satin ribbon along the contour to the scarf, this is for beauty, you can do without it, if you don’t have time, then just trim the scarf so that it looks neat, or hem it by hand if you don’t have a machine. I also sewed the ribbon by hand, I gathered it together for beauty, look at the photo. Keep in mind that we only sew ribbons on both sides. You can create a lot of beautiful things from a white satin ribbon 5 cm wide, for example, kanzashi daisies.

Now we cut out black circles from the remnants of the black lining fabric, for this I found a tiny measuring cup, it seems from cough syrup, and I traced it, then cut it out. You can cut out circles at your discretion. I didn't count their number.

Now you need to glue the circles onto the scarf using hot glue, you can sew them on, but it takes a long time, and I don’t have any time), I’m saving that too))). How to make a magpie beak

Now you need to make the most important attribute of the magpie - the beak. For this we need black cardboard. We roll it into a narrow cone and glue it, try it on so that it fits the size of your child’s nose. Glue the cone together and trim if necessary. Be sure to use a thin drill or something sharp to pierce two holes on the sides on top so that your child can breathe.

My husband suggested that I make a slightly open beak for the magpie and I agreed. we cut out another narrow triangle in length slightly shorter than the beak itself and glue it to the bottom, my daughter painted the inside of this lower beak red. So that the beak can be put on, you will need a thin rubber band, well, you have all probably seen what kind of rubber bands and how masks cling. We had white elastic threads at home, so we used them.

How to make a tail for a magpie costume

I made the tail similarly to the wings, only it is much smaller in size, and the principle of its creation is exactly the same as the wings; for the tail we need quite a bit of black and white fabric. Since there is only one tail, we cut out only three parts: one longer black tail, one shorter white one, and the third small black one, even smaller in size than the white one. I don’t indicate the dimensions, I did everything by eye and cut it out without a template.

Now we fold the parts of the tail, as shown in the photo, and sew them to each other. Then we sew the tail on the back of the dress or skirt; for beauty and neatness, I attached a bow a little higher than the sewn tail, so the tail looked more interesting. It turned out that I only made two bows, for the scarf and for the tail.

I also trimmed the bottom of the dress with white tinsel for beauty, but that’s whatever you want.
