What are the options: main parameters of the PBC

This time we will not talk about GOST standards, since the sizes of Eurostandard and Euro maxi bed linen are not clearly stated anywhere. We will immediately move on to how things stand with such PBCs on the Russian market. The largest selection of products is in the “standard” format, and it is represented mainly by domestic, Chinese and Turkish manufacturers. Among the “maxi”, the choice is already several dozen times, mainly China, Turkey and quite a bit of Europe.

All sets are designed for a bed with a width of 160 cm or more. Their size chart is as follows: the parameters of duvet covers are the same for all countries (the type of set is determined by them) and a fairly wide range of sheets. There may be several options for pillowcases, and they depend little on the manufacturer/country.

This is interesting: on the shelves you can find teenage Euro-size sets; these are bedding that correspond to adults and are labeled as Euro-standard. It differs only in the corresponding print and the absence of a sheet. It is assumed that the latter will be purchased according to the size of the bed on which the teenager sleeps. Euro-maxi, what is it?

An enlarged version of “standard”, sometimes “2” is used instead of “maxi”. In this case it says "bedding sizes Euro and Euro 2". It is not produced in our country, and is quite rare on shelves. Usually this is Türkiye, China and a little Europe. Perhaps this is due to the low demand for such a product: we only managed to “eat up” a bed 160 cm wide. And already 180 cm beds are rare even in furniture stores, 200 - even more so. But nevertheless, such PBCs exist.

And the sizes of Euro double bed linen are designed for a blanket 220x240 cm (the duvet cover has the same parameters), which is not so easy to find. It’s not even available in all online stores. famous brands. Let's take the fairly famous Ascona as an example: maximum size blankets listed on the company’s website are 200x220 cm. It is much easier to choose something under the “Euro-standard”; there are usually at least two options for it, 195x215 and 200x220 cm.

Important: if you cannot choose bed linen in the “2 euro sleeping size” size so that it fits the mattress and blanket at the same time, you can try using the European version. We are looking for a set without a sheet, which one we choose based on the duvet cover. And we already buy a sheet, regular or with an elastic band, separately. In most specialized stores this will not be a problem.

Family bedding

We should also compare the size of Euro bed linen and family size, which also came to us from Europe. There are two duvet covers (one and a half), and there is always one sheet included, but at least 220x240 cm. This is a good replacement for the usual Euro standard if you want to sleep under different blankets. This is especially true for couples who have different thermoregulation: one will cover himself warmer, the other easier.

In family bedding, there is usually a good (compared to Euro maxi) choice of sets for the width of duvet covers: from 135 to 155 cm, with a length of 200 - 210 cm. They are presented on the market by manufacturers different countries. In addition to Russia - Asia, Europe and the East. It is better to look for larger sizes among the “Europeans”; smaller sizes are in Russia and China. The latter’s products, by the way, are better tailored to the domestic consumer than other imports.

In modern textile stores, in addition to standard 2-bedroom sets, they also sell family and euro-sets. Which, along with the variety of dimensional grids used by manufacturers, introduces confusion into a seemingly simple process.

According to the standard, the width of a double bed made in the Russian Federation should be 150–200 centimeters. And the length is 200–210. These numbers are not pulled out of thin air. They are specified in GOST, which has been in force since 2007. It was introduced for a very reasonable purpose - so that manufacturers do not pass off a one-and-a-half bed as a double bed, which costs less.

When choosing the size of a standard double bed, you should take into account your body type. For example, for two adults of average build, a bed with a width of 160 cm is suitable, and for married couple with a thin build – 150.

In order not to miscalculate, you need to lie on the bed with your backs to each other, turn on your side and tuck your legs. If they do not hang down, and there is at least 15 cm of free space between the sleepers, you can safely purchase the bed you like.

In Europe and America, there are slightly different standards regarding the parameters of double sofas and beds. The sizes of double Euro beds vary from 200 to 210 centimeters in length and from 180 to 200 in width.

For the USA, such large furniture is a luxury. That's why they often call it "royal". Standard King and Eastern King beds have a width and length of 193 and 203 centimeters, respectively. Western King, California King - 183 and 213 cm.

Double bed linen sizes

A double bedding set made in the Russian Federation includes 1 sheet, 2 or 4 pillowcases and 1 duvet cover. Their parameters always exceed the dimensions of a double bed and are controlled by GOST from 2007.

Domestic manufacturers are not required to follow GOST; the figures indicated in it are purely advisory nature. There are no strict limits on the parameters of bedding in importing countries either. Therefore, in order to choose bedding that is ideal for a double bed, you need to take measurements from an orthopedic or regular mattress, blanket and pillows.

Selection rules

The size of a double sheet depends on the volume of a regular and/or orthopedic mattress. It should completely hide its sides and end. For example, for a mattress with parameters 190 by 160 and a height of 20 cm, a product 210 × 200 or more will be suitable. Calculation example:

Length: 190 + 20 = 210.
Width: 160 + (2×20) = 200.

The larger the size of the sheet, the easier it is to tuck it under the mattress. Plus, this way it lies more evenly on the sleeping place and gets less confused during sleep.

When choosing a tension product, you need to take into account not only the standard dimensions of the mattress, but also its height. It is always indicated on the packaging of a double sheet; the marking may look like this: 190×160+30 or 190×160, border 30. The remaining parameters of such a product must fully correspond to the sleeping area.

The dimensions of the double duvet cover must correspond to the parameters of the blanket. Measure its length and width and add 5 cm to each value, as some products shrink after washing.

Pillowcases have standard parameters: 60×60 or 70×70 square and 50×70 rectangular. The set may include both the same and different products. In most cases, simple and orthopedic pillows are produced to the same standard, so problems with choice do not arise.

Pillowcases in 2-bedroom PBCs come in several standard models: with buttons, with a zipper and with a flap. It is better to choose a product with a valve larger than 20 cm. It will secure the pillow tightly and will not slide off it. The label only indicates the type of fastener; information about the depth of the valve is usually not available. Therefore, before purchasing a sleeping set, open the package and look inside.

If there is no marking on the packaging of double bed linen, it is most likely counterfeit. Before purchasing a set, make sure that the declared parameters of the bedding correspond to the actual ones. Some manufacturers save fabric, taking advantage of the ignorance or carelessness of consumers.

When choosing underwear, you need to take into account the material of manufacture. It is better to choose cotton products. They do not shrink after washing and do not wrinkle during use. No less popular is linen fabric. It is characterized by good wear resistance and quickly absorbs moisture. But it also has a drawback - it wrinkles easily.

Features of family and euro-sets

Unlike the 2-bedroom set, the set with Euro sheets has larger dimensions. It is designed for an unusually wide bed. The duvet cover can have dimensions of 200 by 220 or 220 by 240 centimeters. Sheet - 240 by 250, 240 by 270, 240 by 280, 240 by 215 centimeters. There are two pillowcases in the set: rectangular (50 by 70) and square (70 by 70).

Austrian and German 2-bedroom sets may not include a sheet. Please check the package carefully before purchasing.

The main difference between family double bed linen sets is the presence of 2 one-and-a-half duvet covers with parameters 145×215, 150×210, 150×215, 155×215 or 160×220. Standard sheets – 240×260, 240×280. Pillowcases too – 50×70, 70×70.

If a 2-bedroom bed has non-standard design features or an orthopedic mattress that is too high, you can purchase accessories for it not in the form of ready-made sets, but separately. As a last resort, you can buy them to order or purchase cuttings for sewing yourself.

Sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases - they are usually purchased as a set. Bed linen sizes and a table with them are the first thing we look for on the package when choosing home textiles. Usually all the necessary information is present, and in a fairly structured manner. However, this does not always guarantee the right choice.

Russian and foreign standards

First, about Russian bed linen sizes and the table of standards. Strictly speaking, few enterprises strictly adhere to not only GOST, but generally accepted size chart. Most of them produce several lines at the same time in order to “cater” to the whole variety of blankets. They “walk” relative to this very grid and each other by about 10 cm in one direction or another.

Double and Euro standard

The 2nd set has more sheets and duvet covers than the 1.5 bedroom set, and the number of pillowcases can be increased to four, with the additional two being decorative. The estimated width of the sleeping place is 140-150 cm. Double bed linen is most typical for Russia and China; it is rare, but found, made in Germany (without sheets). In other producing countries it is replaced by the Euro-standard size.

Family

Surely you have heard the designation related to bed - “duet”, what is it? This is the so-called (more details in the link), it includes 2 “one-and-a-half” duvet covers, 1 large sheet and 2-4 pillowcases. For a sleeping place 160-180 cm. An excellent option when one of the couple (or both) likes to wrap themselves in a blanket.

The most common size of duvet covers in such bedding sets is 150x210, but if you want more, pay attention to Turkish products (160x220). But among the Austrian ones you may find some products that are a bit short. This is not a rule, but it is still worth paying attention to this point.

Euro-maxi - King size

The largest types of bed linen, the dimensions of which are suitable for beds from 180 cm wide. The dimensions of the duvet cover are standard for all countries (220x240), but the sheets may vary. The widest and longest are in Turkish sets: 270x310, 290x310, Russian ones, on the contrary, are most often 220x240.

Important! On the packaging of bed linen you can see the designation of the parameters in the following form: 80x220+30, if we are talking about a sheet with an elastic band, and 50x70+5 (70x70+5), if we are talking about pillowcases with decorative piping.

This means:

80x220 is the size of the sheet according to the sleeping area, and +30 is the height of the sides that hug the sides of the mattress.
50x70 are the dimensions of the pillowcases, and +5 is the width of the decorative edging on them.

Teenage and children's

Teenage sets are close or completely consistent with the sizes of one-and-a-half - adult bed linen. Most often they differ only in color and number of pillowcases: in most cases there is one, less often - two. Turkish and Austrian sets are the largest in size and are suitable even for an adult.

Children's (“Nursery”, “For Newborns”) sets have a different ratio of the size of the bed (60x110, 60/65x120 cm) to the size of the sheet (100x120, 120x170). It is explained simply: the further the free edges of the sheet go under the mattress, the better it is fixed and the less chance the child has of “taking it away”. Suitable - not suitable

Now let’s talk about how to determine the size of bed linen that is right for you. When choosing, you need to take into account the parameters of all its elements at once. Let's start with the sheets. She may be:

Ordinary. The ideal option is the width of the sleeping place + the full height of the mattress with an increase of about 5 cm. Excessive length and width are acceptable for it: the larger the canvas, the smoother it lies and the less it gets confused.
Tension. In this case, the packaging indicates the dimensions corresponding to the size of the bed. That is, if the sheet is intended for a 140x200 mattress, then you will see these numbers. Additionally, the height of the side is indicated (equal to the height of the mattress for which the product is intended).

A set with a fitted sheet will most likely cost more than a regular one. Such an overpayment will be fully justified by the ease of use of the bed sheet: the elastic band secures the sheet well on the mattress, preventing it from straying to the side. Read more in another article.

Maximum error. Up to 10 cm is not at all critical in the operation of the product. That is, if your blanket is 140 cm wide, and the duvet cover, judging by the inscription on the package, is 150 cm, it’s okay. A difference of more than 10 cm may cause some inconvenience.

And finally, pillowcases. Always pay attention to their sizes. In Russian sets they are standard, 70x70, and 50x70 are found only as an addition (in “Euro-standard” and “Euro-maxi”). In Chinese, the situation is most often the same. But underwear produced in other countries can only contain pillowcases 50x70.

Important: a good pillowcase should have a sufficiently deep flap (about 20 cm), or be fastened with buttons or a zipper. Unfortunately, the packaging only indicates the nature of the fastener or the inscription “valve”, without any clarification regarding the dimensions.

A little terminology. Present on the Russian market a large number of foreign-made bed linen. In this case, size designations are sometimes indicated on English language.
