Wen on the face (eyelid) - photo, how to get rid of it at home

Quick page navigation

Wen is a soft, mobile neoplasm of subcutaneous fat that occurs on delicate areas of the skin. Lipoma (the second name for a wen) can appear in a person of any age and gender.

A neoplasm of this kind does not cause any harm to health, but there is little aesthetics in the wen. Therefore, people worry about this condition, looking for ways to remove wen from the face. To understand the features of treatment, let's figure out where they arise from.

Why do wen appear?

The skin of the face is susceptible to the development of cosmetic defects, including wen (see photo). The favorite area of lipomas is the area of the upper and lower eyelids, since the dermis in this area is very thin and delicate, which means there is a relative predominance of adipose tissue.

A lipoma is a white or yellowish lump that is soft to the touch (in later stages it may become firmer). The edges of the neoplasm are smooth, but not defined.

A characteristic feature of a lipoma is mobility, which is clearly visible when pressing near the edge. Once it appears, a wen can remain on the skin for several years. But the most unpleasant thing is that it can grow to a size of 1.5-2 cm in diameter, and sometimes more.

The mechanism of occurrence of the neoplasm is that the sebaceous pore is clogged and the outflow of secretions does not occur. Subcutaneous fat collects into a clot, a capsule is formed around it, covered on top with a layer of dermis and connective fibers.

There are many reasons why wen appears on the face (eyelid), the most common is insufficient cleansing of the facial skin. This problem often occurs in teenagers: they produce excess subcutaneous fat due to active hormonal changes.

  • People of later age are faced with wen on the face due to the use of incorrect skin care products.

But there are also less harmless causes of wen. If the skin of your face begins to be abundantly covered with lipomas, you need to make sure that you do not have one of the following diseases:

  • diabetes;
  • pathology of the thyroid gland;
  • disturbances in the functioning of the bladder and kidneys;
  • liver pathologies causing bile stagnation;
  • hormonal imbalances in women.

If no serious health problems are detected, the cause of lipomas lies in poor nutrition and decreased immunity. It is the skin that is the first to react to an excess of carbohydrates in the body, lack of fluid and low physical activity. It is necessary to pay attention to your diet to prevent the occurrence of the above diseases.

Types of wen on the face, photo

a group of small formations under the lower eyelid

Fatty tumors have the same nature, but differ in the nature of their manifestation and localization:

  • Xanthelasmas are light yellow large lipomas that predominantly appear in the upper and lower eyelids. They tend to enlarge and unite with neighboring wen;
  • Milia are single white small wen on the face, appearing in the cheekbones, on the forehead and on the wings of the nose. They can also be observed in childhood.

How not to confuse a wen with other formations?

Recognizing a lipoma is quite simple. Unlike pimples, white wen on the face is not associated with an inflammatory process, which means they:

  • do not cause pain when pressed;
  • not surrounded by redness;
  • cannot ripen, i.e. there is no release of purulent contents to the surface.

Fatty tumors are characterized by the impossibility of extrusion. When the skin around the pimple is squeezed, pus comes out. Subcutaneous fat, in turn, is surrounded by a capsule and only then covered by a layer of dermis. The capsule cannot be destroyed during mechanical pressure, so the epidermis is injured, but the lipoma remains.

Do not confuse a wen with a subcutaneous pimple, which also visually resembles a lipoma. A subcutaneous pimple tends to hurt until it comes out. In addition, noticeable signs of inflammation will be detected around the bulge.

There is a possibility of confusing a wen with a white mole - here it is more difficult to recognize the true cause of the neoplasm. Only a dermatologist can draw the correct conclusion.

  • However, there is one general rule for wen and white moles - it is forbidden to squeeze them out yourself, so as not to cause harm to the body.

How to remove wen on the face - techniques

Each patient decides for himself whether or not to remove a wen on the eyelid or face. The male sex does not pay any attention to small lipomas; women most often postpone treatment and use toning products to hide skin imperfections.

It is recommended to remove wen with a diameter of 0.5 cm or more, since there is a high probability of further increase in size. It’s worth doing this not even for the sake of an aesthetically pleasing appearance, but also for reasons of safety of your own health.

Lipoma is a benign neoplasm by definition, but if it grows rapidly or is improperly removed, it can transform into a malignant tumor - liposarcoma (the percentage of malignancy is no more than 1-2).

Another danger that wen poses is the proliferation of microorganisms. The fatty substance is a suitable environment for the rapid growth of bacteria, and a small wen can become a source of large purulent inflammation, which can only be gotten rid of surgically.

Removing wen - removal methods

It is recommended to remove a wen on the lower eyelid, as well as on the upper mobile area of skin above the eye, in the following cases:

  • inability to close an eye;
  • presence of painful sensations when blinking;
  • impairment of vision in one eye due to a mechanical obstruction;
  • an increase in the size of the tumor in a short period of time (in this case, emergency histological examination may be required);
  • inability to hide the defect with cosmetics.

The patient is offered several methods of getting rid of lipoma, depending on its size, nature, and individual wishes.

1. Classic surgery

Wen on the face from 0.5 cm in diameter can be removed using classical surgery. During the operation, the doctor makes an incision, removes the contents of the wen, then the capsule itself to prevent relapse, and stitches it up.

Among the disadvantages of this procedure is the scar from the suture in a visible place, which will have to be hidden daily with the help of decorative cosmetics. Unsightliness can be minimized if during surgery you use an atraumatic needle and thread of the thinnest diameter (“00” and “000” are thread numbers).

Surgery is performed under local anesthesia and only after an ophthalmological examination. The patient must spend the next few days in the hospital so that the doctor makes sure that the quality of vision has not changed (has not worsened).

2. Endoscopy

A more modern type of surgical operation, the scar after which is almost invisible. Like the classic intervention, it is performed under local anesthesia. Wen removal on the face occurs faster.

  • In the case of the eyelid, the procedure is delayed, since the skin in this area is very delicate and thin, so the doctor’s task is not to damage the mucous membrane of the eye.

A small incision is made above the wen to insert an endoscope under the skin. Then, using a device, the lipoma is cut off from the skin of the eyelid.

The endoscopic method makes it possible to make an incision not directly above the tumor, but in the least noticeable place next to it. There are much fewer cosmetic defects after such a procedure.

3. Laser removal

This is the most modern method with a long list of advantages:

  • No scars after surgery due to high laser precision;
  • No bleeding and no further hematomas, since the laser beam seals small vessels;
  • Elimination of the possibility of relapse, since the capsule itself is immediately removed, and not the fatty substance;
  • It is impossible for the wound to become infected, since the laser kills any microorganisms.

Laser removal of lipomas is considered the most expensive, but fastest and safest treatment method.

4. Injection of the drug into the wen

The doctor can eliminate the lipoma without an incision - by injecting a special drug. The specialist punctures the small lipoma with a thin needle and injects a drug, under the influence of which the fat capsule resolves on its own.

  • The disadvantage of the procedure is that the result of the injection will appear only after 2-3 months.

How to get rid of wen on the face at home

Having discovered a wen on the face, “How to get rid of this unaesthetic bulge at home?” - first question. The classic method that our grandmothers used to remove fat from their faces practically repeated the surgical operation at home:

  1. Disinfection: put gloves on your hands, treat the needle and the place of manipulation with alcohol;
  2. Piercing the wen: stretch the skin with two fingers and pierce the epidermis and capsule with a gentle hand movement so as not to damage the surrounding vessels;
  3. Do not squeeze out the contents of the capsule under any circumstances, but wait until it comes out on its own;
  4. Healing: treatment with an antiseptic and lubrication with Levomekol or Methyluracil ointment.

Under no circumstances should you cauterize the site of removal of the wen with alcohol solutions and neglect antiseptic treatment. Doctors do not recommend attempting removal on their own, citing possible complications. They are primarily associated with the leaving of a capsule into which fatty secretions can re-enter.

Traditional medicine offers many recipes aimed at lubricating lipomas with biologically active substances that stimulate resorption:

  • It is recommended to make applications from aloe. To do this, you need to glue the cut aloe leaf with a band-aid overnight. After 2-3 months, the lipoma will go away, according to traditional medicine recipes;
  • Lubricating the wen with celandine juice (remember that there will be a characteristic orange spot on the face). Apply the juice 2-3 times every day, and within a month a crust will appear over the new growth. Continue until the crust comes off;
  • Applications from Kalanchoe with honey. It is necessary to apply a Kalanchoe leaf according to the same principle as aloe - at night. In the morning, remove the application and lubricate the lipoma with honey;
  • A mixture of golden mustache and cinnamon. Tear off the leaves of the golden mustache and crush them into a paste, add cinnamon. Apply the mixture to the unsightly area 1-2 times a day. It is also recommended to add cinnamon to the diet, as it promotes the activity of metabolic processes in the dermis;
  • Lamb fat and coltsfoot - this remedy has a rather unpleasant smell, but it helps in the shortest possible time. The melted fat must be mixed in equal proportions with aloe juice and smeared on the lipoma. You should be extremely careful to prevent the product from getting into your eyes;
  • Grate the onion and apply to the wen for 30-40 minutes daily. You can also use not grated onions, but baked ones in the oven. The antiseptic properties of the product will help reduce tumors within 10-14 days.

Wen - complications

A fatty deposit on the face or eyelid, the treatment of which was performed incorrectly (as is often the case with self-removal at home), can cause complications. Skin infection can develop into an inflammatory process with the accumulation of pus.

  • In this situation, surgical opening of the abscess in a hospital setting will be required.

Another risk is relapse and the emergence of new multiple lipomas. The mechanism of relapse is due to poor diet and hidden diseases, as well as abandonment of the capsule.

The most dangerous complication is the transformation of a benign neoplasm into liposarcoma, which causes serious harm to the patient’s health, especially if diagnosed late.
