How to lighten hair with hydrogen peroxide?

Hydrogen peroxide has been used for decades in home cosmetology to bleach hair. When used correctly, you can achieve the desired result without harming your hair.

Lightening will work better if your hair is strong and healthy

Lighten the strands correctly

How to lighten your curls yourself? Before the bleaching procedure, it is not recommended to dye your hair or perm it. This will greatly damage the hair structure. Avoid using a straightener, hair dryer or curlers. Do not use products containing sulfates. They make strands brittle and dry. Give preference to natural shampoos and conditioners.

The day you decide to start bleaching, rinse your hair thoroughly and use conditioner

To bleach at home you will need:

  • hydrogen peroxide;
  • spray bottle;
  • hairpins;
  • towel.

Hydrogen peroxide comes in different concentrations. The faster your curls absorb moisture, the less concentration you need. For thick hair, it is best to use a product with a concentration of 8-12%, for medium thickness choose 6-8%, and for thin hair 3-6% is suitable.

Lightening should be done on clean hair, so before the procedure, wash your hair using shampoo. You cannot dry your hair with a hairdryer; it must dry naturally. Dry them with a towel and comb them well. Start lightening after 25-35 minutes, when the hair is slightly damp.

Mix the solution with water in a 1:1 ratio. Pour the resulting liquid into a spray bottle. Divide the strands into three parts and secure them with hairpins. Spray bleach onto each strand.

The result of bleaching depends on the original hair color. If the strands are dark in color, then you need to keep the solution for about 30-45 minutes. You can speed up the process by using high temperature. Gather the strands into a bun and wrap them in foil. Warm up evenly with a hairdryer for 5-7 minutes. Afterwards, rinse with water using a balm.

Decide how much you will lighten your hair and use peroxide accordingly

It is much easier for girls with light hair to achieve results. Brunettes will have to be patient. If bleaching your hair with hydrogen peroxide does not bring the desired result, repeat the procedure the next day. To keep your hair healthy and shiny, you need to follow simple rules:

  • moisturize your curls with conditioner;
  • If a large amount of clean product gets on your head, rinse it under running water;
  • For girls with light curls, you can add a little lemon juice to the solution.

If you do not have a suitable spray bottle, you can use glass, enamel, porcelain or plastic containers. Under no circumstances should you prepare the product in a metal container. When combined with oxygen, the metal leads to decomposition of the composition.

If you want to lighten not all of your hair, but only some strands, then you can apply the product using a cotton pad or a brush with synthetic bristles. To avoid burns, apply it with gloves. The neck, forehead and ears should be lubricated with cream or Vaseline before the procedure. If you apply a lightening agent to the ends of your hair, you can get a fashionable ombre.

Do not add shampoos to the solution. Their active components are not alkaline, so they inhibit the oxygen release reaction. The result will be invisible. Instead of shampoo, you can add liquid soap to the lightening agent.

Bleaching your hair is not as easy as it seems. To achieve an even bleaching effect, the solution should be applied to the ends first and then to the roots. That's all, because the roots discolor faster due to the warmth of the scalp.

If you want to achieve an ombre style, start at the ends and work your way down to the roots.

Recipes

The simplest bleach recipe consists of hydrogen peroxide and water. The bleaching solution can be prepared based on:

  • ammonia;
  • liquid soap;
  • lemon juice;
  • soda;
  • fuller's clay.

Mix 50 ml of the product with 3-4 drops of ammonia. Apply the finished product to the strands using a spray bottle. Avoid contact with scalp. After 15-20 minutes, you can wash your hair with warm water. Lightening is possible in two tones. For brunettes, the desired result does not occur immediately. After the first procedure, a yellowish tint may appear.

To bleach dark hair, it is best to use a strong mixture. To prepare it you will need 30 g of liquid soap, 40 g of perhydrol, 1/3 tablespoon of a 6% solution and 30 g of water. Combine all ingredients and apply to strands. The curls will become lighter by about three tones. It is not recommended to carry out this procedure more than once every 5-7 days.

To bleach entire hair, use a spray bottle and apply the solution completely to the strand of your choice.

If you mix hydrogen peroxide with water in equal proportions and add a little lemon juice, then in addition to lightening, the product will get rid of the unpleasant yellow tint.

Grind the hydroperite tablet. Mix the powder with 50 g of water, 1 ampoule of ammonia, a pinch of soda and shampoo. It is best to apply the product with a cotton pad. Avoid contact with the scalp; burning may occur.

You can lighten your curls using a mask based on Fuller's clay. Mix 1.5 tablespoons of clay with 1 teaspoon of solution and 5 drops of ammonia. Distribute the mask over the entire length of the strands. After 15-20 minutes, rinse with running water.

Why is hydrogen peroxide dangerous?

Despite the simplicity of the lightening procedure at home, it should still be carried out with extreme caution. A high concentration solution is very dangerous. If you apply it in its pure form to the strands, the result will be disastrous. In this case, the pigment is completely destroyed, which leads to hair loss.

If you do not follow the proportions when preparing the recipe or leave the product on your hair, the solution can harm your hair. Consequences of incorrect use of the solution:

  • brittle strands;
  • split ends;
  • scalp burns;
  • excessive hair loss.

Rinse your hair with cold water. It will wash away the peroxide and give your hair shine.

To ensure that bleaching is safe and your hair remains healthy and strong, you should begin the procedure with a trial procedure. First, apply 2-3 drops of the solution to the skin behind the ear. If after 7-10 minutes a burning sensation and redness appear, then continue the procedure.

When lightening dyed hair into a dark shade, you should conduct a test for the presence of metals that could remain on the strands after dyeing. Apply the solution to a small strand; if the hair becomes warm after 3-5 minutes, the solution should be washed off immediately. Discoloration in this case can lead to skin burns and hair loss.

Lightening curls takes place in several stages. The final result after the procedure can be assessed only after 2-3 days. To stop the oxidative reaction, the curls should be rinsed with vinegar solution.

Hydrogen peroxide should be used very carefully on thin and already damaged strands. An absolute contraindication for home lightening is weak and dull hair.

Hair care after bleaching

Any lightening is a destructive procedure for hair. Hydrogen peroxide has a more gentle effect compared to other bleaching methods. It does not contain toxic substances that have a negative effect on follicles and hair. Bleaching is mainly carried out if you want to grow strands of natural color. There is no bright contrast between the regrown roots and the colored curls.

Despite all the benefits, hydrogen peroxide dries out your hair. The main care after the procedure is strengthening. Healing masks can be prepared from:

  • parsley;
  • onion peel;
  • eggs;
  • castor oil.

Finely chop a bunch of fresh parsley. Add 1 tablespoon of castor or burdock oil to it. Distribute the resulting mixture onto the strands and leave for 15 minutes. Then rinse off using shampoo.

A mask made from onion peels and oak bark strengthens the bulbs. Mix 15 g of each ingredient and add 1 glass of water. Add bread pulp. Distribute the finished mask from roots to ends. After 20 minutes, rinse with warm running water.

An egg mask has proven itself well in home cosmetology. Mix 1 chicken egg with a glass of cognac. Add 20 g of burdock oil to the juice of one lemon. Apply the mask over the entire length of the strands. Gather your curls into a bun and wrap them with cling film. After half an hour, rinse with warm water and shampoo.

Add a couple of drops of lemon juice to castor or almond oil. Warm the mixture to room temperature. Apply the product to the roots of your scalp using rubbing movements and leave for 20-30 minutes.
